As the holiday season comes upon us, I am reflecting on how things are different from when we were children. One of the most obvious can be illustrated by what we can expect to happen. When we were children and lost a tooth. We put it under the pillow. Some time during the night, the "Tooth Fairy" would come along and leave us money. Now the holidays are here and the things we enjoy most have changed. Now we can expect to eat a good meal and later to bed. Then the magic occurs. Sometime during the night the "Fat Fairy" comes by and throws on an extra five pounds. At any rate, from the HINDS house to yours, may this be a very good holiday season, and have the best year yet. I did a search of all of the WPA Franklin County indexes (FTM Library) and the pre-1850 Indiana marriages, and didn't come up with anything. There are a few JACQUES surnames in the Franklin county indexes, but that is all I found. If there is anyone living in the area that would like to be of assistance to the website I am needing help to get caught up with obituaries from the Brookville newspaper. I need someone just to type/scan the obituaries and e-mail them to me and I will take it from there. There are several people from around the country that have been reading them and asking when they will be updated. I have the newspapers and would give them to someone to work on at their leisure. My time of late has been taken up with everything going on around me. I can explain more to anyone wanting to help. Just drop me an e-mail... BTW, (off genealogy topic) pictures of my pro wrestling debut are at http://www.fortunecity.com/millenium/rugrats/110/ I am undefeated 1-0 and look forward to my next match in January.. Hi, I had mailed a letter to the courthouse about three months ago, requesting information on how to obtain a death certificate, and I've heard no response. Perhaps someone on this board can help me--IS it possible to obtain a death certificate of someone who died in Franklin Co. in 1836 and 1838? If so, will these certificates have the father's name included? I am currently researching two brothers who settled early in Franklin County by the names of Robert and William GLIDEWELL. It cannot be proven who their father was, and pension records confirm they are brothers, yet mention no other family members. Any suggestions? Thanks
Hello, Does anyone have access to the 1840 Franklin County Census? I need a lookup on page 517 for ROBERT BURK. I am looking for any info on the Robert Burk who married Matilda Jackman in 1836 in Franklin Co., IN. Who were his parents? Did he have siblings? Would love to hear from anyone who might know of him or his family, or who might have any suggestions. I'm stuck. Brenda shnr@cpinternet.com
I am sorry if this query is old to you, but since I am new to the list, I am sending it again. I am looking for information on my family. Believed to have originally been Hind. Variations of the name include HINDS [My current} HIND / HINES / HYNES / HYND, etc. My direct ancestory was in Beaver County, PA after the Revolution, but may have been descendent from Chester, PA, -- Albemarle, Augusta Counties in VA. Family members migrated through VA, PA, KY, TN, AL, AR, IN. Early names were James, William, Thomas, John, Samuel. At Beaver County, PA (Sewickley and N. Sewickley) John Hind - Revolutionary War [fifer] John, jr., George, Peter, and Jacob. Also Sampson and others. Related families included PIERSOL and OLDHAM. Descendents were known to have moved to Jennings (and surrounding) Counties, IN in the 1830/40 time frame. Included John, jr., Sampson (at least one with that name.), My great great grandfather Jason (also a John) who moved with his family into North Western Indiana. His wife Catherine (Oldham) and some Children are burried in Hemphill Cemetery. Jason died in Remington, IN. My great grandfather and some of his brothers (Includes Roark and George) served in the Civil war from that area. I would like to know what happened to the family and where descendents now live. Also, where was Revolutionary War, John Hind burried. I am Clif Hinds. Respond to me at my email: hindsclif@mindspring.com
Hello, Does anyone have access to the 1840 Franklin County Census? I am looking for the census information for ROBERT BURK according to the index he is found on page 517. Thank you for your time Brenda shnr@cpinternet.com
I enjoyed the poem about the census taker and our "ancestor". Thank you for printing it. Several months ago, on one of the lists I subscribe to, someone printed a poem about researching our families. It had a line about looking at tombstomes, and was generally very touching. If it was this list, and anyone has it, would you please send it to me? I'd appreciate it! Thanks in advance! Carrie
I have the family of John Phenis, b. 1854, of Franklin County IN and Butler County OH. Sorry, nothing on either Charles or William. I'll keep a lookout. Dear Randy, Congratulations on the birth of your new grandson. And Happy Thanksgiving to all! Judith Walters
My oldest daughter gave birth Wed afternoon to our second grandson....Christian Kaye Turner. A new branch has sprung!!!! A little extra to be thankful for this year!!! Randy Klemme Franklin County Genealogy
It was the first day of the census, and all through the land each polster was ready...a black book in hand. He mounted his horse for a long dusty ride, his book and his quills were tucked by his side. A long winding ride down a road barely there, toward the smell of fresh bread wafting up through the air. The woman was tired, with lines on her face and wisps of brown hair tucked back into place. She gave him some water ...as they sat at the table and she answered his questions.....the best she was able. He asked her of children. Yes, she had quite a few --- the oldest was twenty , the youngest not quite two. She held up a toddler with cheeks round and red; his sister she whispered was napping in bed. She noted each person who lived there with pride, and she felt the faint stirrings of the wee one inside. He noted the sex, the color, the age...the marks of the quill soon filled up the page. At the number of children .......... she nodded her head .......and felt her lips quiver for the three that were dead. The places of birth she..."never forgot" was it Pennsylvania? or Virginia? or Ohio? or what? They had come cross the sea, of that she was clear, but she wasn't quite sure how long they'd been here. They spoke of employment, of schooling and such, they could read some, and write some, but really not much. When the questions were answered, his job there was done, so he mounted his horse and rode toward the sun. We can almost imagine his voice loud and clear, "May God bless you all for another ten years". Now picture a time warp ..... its now you and me as we search for the people on our family tree. We squint at the census and scroll down so slow as we search for "THAT ENTRY" from long, long ago. Could they ever imagine on that long ago day that the entries they made would effect us this way? If they knew would they wonder at the yearnings we feel and the searching that makes them so lovingly real. Would they understand our efforts, our struggles, to reach back to touch them because they are ours? Hush now awhile, we can hear if we listen the words they impart, "Our bloods in your veins and our love is in your hearts". Author Unknown

okay, from the response I personally received, I have changed the status of this list. In the long run it may hurt the list, but due to the complaints of the recent spam that slipped through the worldwide rootsweb server that this list is on, I have made the changes. As of this moment, the following will happen 1) ONLY those that have subscribed to the list will be able to post anything to this list. In otherwards, a passing genealogist curious as to what the list is or someone who may have a question to ask will no longer be able to do it... 2) Those who have subscribed to the list will ONLY be able to use the mail address that the subscribed from to post. Some of us with multiple e-mail boxes or if you try to post from another computer can no longer happen. This list is now limited to the 123 e-mail addresses that are in the subscription lists for the list and digest modes. Sorry to those who could care less about this topic, but I get tired of complaints... Randy Klemme
