    1. Re: [INFRANKLI-L] Old Soldiers' Home?
    2. Ruth Schlemmer
    3. I've been trying to find out if their was a Soldiers' Home in Franklin or Dearborn Counties, too. I received two suggestions: one, that a person from this area might have gone to Dayton, Ohio, and another suggested Tippecanoe County on the Wabash river, just north of Lafayette, IN. The 1873 newspaper article was in regard to a man who had died in the soldiers' home. There had been articles about this man in a few papers during the months prior to that. Since the editor seemed to assume that readers would know where it was, I thought it might be local. I hate to think of a person, in failing health, traveling so far by 1873 means from northern Dearborn County. If I learn more, I will share the info. So I thought I would send a couple of pics out...These will be up on the website shortly... I was injured today at wrestling school, so I should have a little bit of time to work on the website for the next 10 days :o).....nothing serious, just tore a muscle in the back of my leg....other than pain I am okay and ready to go again... I will shortly have a few more historical places in Franklin County on the website for the benefit of those living elsewhere that May not get back here... 1. [INFRANKLI-L] HELLO????
    2. Randy Klemme
    3. Boy this list has been quiet, so here's a couple of new things.... BTW we now have gone over the 150 mark in people subscribed to this list. We have well over 400 genealogists with queries on the web site. Bonnie Stokes of West Harrison, IN has offered to assist in getting the obits up to date on the website. This is much appreciated. My time has been very limited with several personal and internet projects of late. Bonnie will be a big asset to the obit project. I have several new pictures of historical sites to get up on the website soon (hopefully). Mark Tebbe of Lebanon, Ohio has made a look up offer for those with families that lived in the St Mary's/Oak Forest area of Franklin County. Here's his explanation.... -------------- I would like to volunteer to do look-ups for St. Mary's of the Rock (Haymond,IN) / Oak Forest, IN. I got the copy of the "St. Mary's of the Rock & St. Cecilia 150 Years Celebration 1844-1994". The book contains a history of the St. Mary's of the Rock Catholic parish and St. Cecilia parish. There are many references to families from the early years to the present. ------------ Thanks to Mark we will also have a St Mary's Cemetery listing shortly on the website. Has everybody visited the Indiana Pioneer Cemeteries Restoration Project website and offered your signature to go towards legislation in Indiana to protect our pioneer cemeteries. There are several pending bills in the State Legislature that could help our cause, but we need signatures of not only those who still live in Indiana but those who live elsewhere and have families buried in Indiana. There is a downloadable petition on the website and an address to send it to our state coordinator. Time is of essence, because, the INPCRP will be called to testify in Indianapolis as soon as those bills come up. If you need the website address let me know. Thanks to everyone for your help. Maybe it is time to get the website cranked up again.....now back to the wrestling ring :o) Randy Klemme Franklin County Genealogy and PCRP Coordinator

An article in The Harrison News (Harrison, Ohio), August 15, 1873, states: "William Cox, well know in the community as bard of Logan (Logan Township, Dearborn County,Indiana) died at soldiers home one day last week." Does anyone on the Franklin County list know where the "soldiers home" would be? Thanks, Ruth Cox Schlemmer

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, Carol > Williams Responding to your Oct 15 posting. Kept a copy of your posting and delayed in responding because of e mail malfunction and wifes major surgery. There are many Browns and they are difficult to trace. But does this Brown history fit into your records. John and Margaret Shaw of Hempfield Twp of Westmoreland, Pa. had a son Andrew and a daughter Margaret Kyle wife of Isaac Kyle who moved from Westmoreland to Wayne Co. Ohio. The Kyles lived there all their lives. Andrew lived in Chippewa Twp of Wayne Co. Ohio in 1820. By 1830 he and his son John lived there. By 1840 Both were gone You mention that your John and Margaret had a son John C.Brown. Do you know what the C stands for. I am the descendant of John Brown the brother of Andrew who also has a son John C. Brown. Andrew and son John probably moved futher westward. Could we make a connection. Do you know the father of Your John who married Margaret. Maybe the C is a family signature. I'm still working on my Browns but know that they bought land in Westmoreland, Hempfiels twp in 1769 and settled there in 1770. John the father of Andrew and my John died in 1795. My John was born in 1780 and dies about 1851. Maybe you can put it together. Good Luck. Joseph Brown
