Dear Joe, Thank you very much for your E-mail. I have been trying to connect with your web site, but I can't seem to get connected to any URL with a www.geocities.com DSN! Can't figure it out. Any ideas? My great great grandfather was also John Altherr? He had two wives: (Maria) Eve Weber (my great great grandmother0 born 1820 and Francis Sinz b. abt 1830. Do these fit your family tree? Hope to get connected to geocities soon. Even Franklin County has a geocities.com DNS!!!! Thanks again, Judy

Jean, This is a quote from "Early Settlers of Indiana's "Gore" 1803-1820" by Shirley Keller Mikesell: === "The Indiana Territory was formed in 1800 with the division of the Northwest Territory. At that time, Ohio's western boundary was the Greenville Treaty Line of 1795. When Ohio became a state in 1803 and its present western boundary was established, a wedge of land was ceded to the Indiana Territory and named Dearborn County. It became known as the "Gore". The county seat at Lawrenceburg was the primary repository for records concerning the inhabitants. Subdivision of Dearborn Co. began in 1811 with the formation of Franklin and Wayne counties, followed by Switzerland in 1814. The "Gore" area slices through the present-day counties of Dearborn, Franklin, Ohio, Randolph, Switzerland, Union and Wayne." === There was a court house fire in Dearborn County in 1826. But, I will put your information on my list to look for in Dearborn County on my next trip. I did notice two marriages in Franklin County which may be of interest to you, though: Fletcher, Eliza Jane to Price, John 9-29-1837 Fletcher, Rebecca Ann to Kay, John 1-16-1840 Good luck in your search, Ruth Cox Schlemmer
Hi Franklin Indiana researchers A light bulb went on this morning after visiting the link that Randy Klemme so graciously gave us. When I connected to the link it stated that Franklin Indiana was formed in 1811, I think. Well, information I was given about my G.G. Grandfather David Fletcher marrying Rebecca Tarwater in 1806 in Franklin In must be incorrect if Franklin wasn't formed until 1811. What areas made up the county what county was Franklin prior to becoming it's own county? Maybe the county they were married in became Franklin. I did find David shown on the 1812 War Muster Rolls online in Franklin IN, so I know they had been there during that time frame. Could someone please tell me which counties Franklin came from? I visited the Franklin In genweb page but it doesn't state where Franklin originated from. Thanks Everyone Jean

Some of the names you mentioned: Geis, Stenger, Ripberger appear on tangents of my family tree. My major families for Franklin and Dearborn counties are: Walter(s), Altherr, and Weber. They originated in Hesse-Darmstadt and the Palatinate (now Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate in German Federal Republic). Does any of this sound familiar? Judy Walters
