Chuck, could your Allen's have Cherokee in their background? My Allen's have a native American connection. They came to Jefferson Co., IN from KY around 1805-1810. This was Franklin Allen who married Eliza Kent (her father was David Kent). Some of their children later moved to Floyd Co, IN (New Albany). Some stayed in Floyd Co. and other's moved north to Indy and west to Iowa (Keokuk). Thanks, Janet
Janet and other Floyd listers, I don't have any evidence one way or another for a Native American connection. The surnames ALLEN and BROWN are both so common that it's really hard to connect them with anybody, although there are some Allens in KY who just might be related. I have nothing definite on Tom and Nancy before they showed up at the Floyd county courthouse 12/2/1820 to get a marriage license. They could have been living in IN already, or just arrived from KY that day. Maybe somebody on this list has the answers.
