In trying to solve the mystery per the 1860 & 1870 census records of my 3rd & 2nd great grandfathers Thomas Sinex & Elisha West Sinex, respectively, resulting in a loss of some $20,000 and they being in the lumber business in New Albany, I had read of several large fires destroying businesses in that area in the 1860s, and was wondering if this might be a possible cause. I ordered and received copies of these articles from the Indiana Archives which give no help in this direction. Is there anyone in the general area of New Albany who might have some knowledge of what became of this lumber business. Or if it had been leased and using another name unknown to us, with the loss affecting Thomas Sinex & Son. Any help, or suggestions of where I might check into this further, will be gratefully appreciated. Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington)
