According to census records, he was born somewhere in Missouri. He lived in Illinois most of his adult life, part of it being in St. Clair County. He did, at times, move back and forth between Illinois and St. Louis. He was married to Elmira (Almyra) Greer, who died in 1904. I have only found him twice in census records, as Val and Valentine. It is possible he only went by that name and his real name was John. His oldest son was "John V." and I am assuming that was "John Valentine". Any help would be appreciated. He seemed to appear out of nowhere and it's been a real quest to find info. Thanks, Cathy Weber
