I've done a lot of research into this. If your relative was adopted after her parents were killed it will be nearly impossible to get the legal paperwork. They consider the right to privacy regarding adoptions that was passed in the 50's to be retroactive. However, since it occured in 1903 records were not sealed yet. Go to the county archives where it occured and see if you can dig anything up in the probate/circuit court records. Sometimes the judges orders for the orphaned children are there. I haven't been that lucky, unfortunately. I realize your posting is more than a year old. Maybe you've made progress since then.
