I'm just curious; what's the Black Hawk War? My gg grandfather was orphaned in the 1830's (G.W. Beck), at least according to his brother's bio published in Baird's History of Clark County and I'm trying to figure out what could have happened to his father (Daniel) and mother. Black Hawk was a Indian chief that fought to keep the land in IL. With all the new settlers coming into the state he was not happy about it. So the IL people asked for help and several surrounding states came to their aid. The 4th July 1832 there were several that volunteered in Clark County, IN there were over 100 of them that served under Capt. Lemuel Ford and most of them were Mounted Rangers. In the state of IL there is a complete list of all that fought that were from IL but nothing on IN volunteeres. I contacted the Indiana State Archives and they told me that I should contact Clark & surrounding counties. Someone in one of the library's may have a record of those that were in the Black Hawk War 1832-1833. All that they have is the names in a card file. Hoping that there is more than just that, on those that served. Would appreciate any help with this.
