A big thank you to the ten or so people who tried unsuccessfully to find Thomas and Nancy ALLEN for me in the 1850 census. It would appear that some combination of the following happened: 1. They avoided being enumerated ANYWHERE in the U.S.A. 2. They WERE enumerated but their names were so badly garbled as to defy transcribing and indexing. 3. Their ages were wildly misrecorded, miscopied, etc. My best guess as to Nancy's birth date is 1804; I don't have a clue as to Thomas. She would have married at 16, but that was no big deal in those days. I'm about 99% sure they were living in either New Albany or Greenville, as that's where all their kids were, including Thomas J. whom several of you noticed. I'll be contacting the Indiana State Library to follow up on some articles in the 1849-1889 New Albany newspaper data base. They may shed some light on Thomas. Thanks again!
