They are buried side by side in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life and especially locate family members still living so we can send them the free photographs of his grave site and the beautiful memorial in the Philippines. I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County Indiana residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information of nearly a thousand servicemen from Indiana killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines. http://fizkid.tripod.com/ We visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. Please help us find the families that might be still living of the men that gave their lives for our freedoms. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date. These are the most helpful in finding the families. If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times. Surnames: OTT ROTH BAKER UTZ SUMMERS HOPPER in Harrison & Floyd Counties Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3h.2ADE/439.484 Message Board Post: Bill, I don't know how helpful this will be, but my ROTH ancestors came to America from Karbach, Bavaria, and settled at least temporarily in Lanesville. Traveling with the on the Ship Manchester was a BAUER family, also from Karbach. One of the ROTH brothers married the daughter of Arnold BAUER who, unfortunately, died soon after arriving in Harrison County giving birth to their first child. The ROTH family eventually moved on to Wisconsin, but the BAUERs remained in Indiana mostly in the Lanesville area, but some went over to Clark Co. Looking at the passenger list for the Manchester, I did not see Lorenz HIMMELHAVER nor BAUER, but apparently many other Bavarian families from that same area settled in or near Lanesville, coming at different times on different ships. Karbach is located just west or Wurzburg. The records for St. Vitus Catholic Church in Karbach are not available in LDS records. They are archived in Wurzburg, and you would have to hire a researcher to obtain any information. The Ship Manchester sailed from Havre in early 1854, and arrived in New Orleans on May 1 (see ISTG Vol. 3). From New Orleans, the ROTHs and BAUERs sailed up the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers to arrive in Harrison Co. Just to satisfy my own curiosity, how did Lorenz assume the name of HIMMELHAVER if his parents were BAUERS??

I would like to know the DOB for each of the children. I am assuming they all were born in Indiana. Also, would you happen to know the DOB location for Nola Keithley? This I also assume to be Indiana, probably Floyd County, and maybe Georgetown.

The HANDS came to New Albany ca 1818 from Cape May CAPE MAY NJ, where the families had lived for at least half a century. I believe it was a Thomas Hand and family and in-laws that came to IN. He had brothers along also. Family names were GARRISON, DAVIS, WRIGHTS and others. Before CAPE MAY the family was in Southampton and Easthampton, LONG ISLAND NY ca 1700. Before that they were from Lynn and other towns in MA, except for brother Joseph, who went to NewHaven CT shortly after his fathers death ca 1660. He married Jane WHITE/WRIGHT in CT, possibly Guilford CT. Apparently he also went to L.I. NY. My line, of Lemius Frisbee HAND and Elizabeth GARRISON ended up in Logansport CASS IN in last half of 1800's. My direct came to Chicago COOK IL ca 1900. GINNY 2 vmartinez5946@aol.com

In trying to solve the mystery per the 1860 & 1870 census records of my 3rd & 2nd great grandfathers Thomas Sinex & Elisha West Sinex, respectively, resulting in a loss of some $20,000 and they being in the lumber business in New Albany, I had read of several large fires destroying businesses in that area in the 1860s, and was wondering if this might be a possible cause. I ordered and received copies of these articles from the Indiana Archives which give no help in this direction. Is there anyone in the general area of New Albany who might have some knowledge of what became of this lumber business. Or if it had been leased and using another name unknown to us, with the loss affecting Thomas Sinex & Son. Any help, or suggestions of where I might check into this further, will be gratefully appreciated. Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington)
