Armstrong b. 1821 and Alexis LeRoy Armstrong, b. 1823, and then I find her again when she marries John S. Doughten. She is not on 1850 census, but her children are as listed in my initial posting. Her maiden name was given as Jane Leroy of New York when she married John Armstrong. Family lore says she was French and married three times. Supposedly she had some connection to Leroy Genessee Co, NY. Am seeking to know what happened to her after the birth of her last child, Adele J. Leroy, b. 1842. Are there descendants of this family still in New Albany, Floyd Co, IN?

I am researching my family through a Francis Reas(e) Sr., in his will he mentions a son-in-law George Brown and I haven't been able to find the daughter's name. Vine (Vina) is a later ancestor's name tho and the dates are right.... They lived in Harrison Co., IN from Shenandoah Va. hope this connects...if this sounds possible, I can fill in most of the Reas' from Harrison Co.
Since I have both Mitchell & Kern/s connections in southern Indiana thought I would add mine in also - In my SINEX genealogy I have a Mary Ann SINEX b. ca 1838 who married Thomas D. Mitchell in Floyd County, February 11, 1856 and they had 4 known (to me) children: George M., Laura J., Mary L., Louis C. I also have a SINEX & KERN/S connection in Floyd County & Washington County and a 3rd great aunt Jane WAUGHTELL married into a KERNS line through SUMMA connection in Washington County. Currently looking for information on the records that were being kept and reported on the POW's at Camp Douglas. I have been studying on the Camp Douglas POW's. If you would please answer me a few questions???? Do you have the compiled servicemans record for E.F. McManaman? I need to know how many entries were made while he was at Camp Douglas????? What are the nature of references while he was there???? Does Your ancestors records mention the end of the war, paroled, shipped to MD?? Are all these notes on the servicemans reports or have you gathered these things from other sources??? If other resources what??? My own Wm Grizzle and Brother John were there from Sept 1863-May 1964. After May there are no other notes about their being on the roll call as present, or notes of being sick, or if they died there, were exchanged, or escapees. Without paying for several other POW's records I do not know how to find out how many notes or what kind of record keeping may have been continued through to the end of the war and release or death. I could very much appreciate any help you could lend my way. I really need to figure out what became of my Wm. Grizzle and why there are no other entries after May, especially if there are entries for your ancestor. Thank-You in advance for anything you may be able to lend to helping me.

Joseph HESSIAN Self M Male W 25 IN Railroading IRE IRE Mary HESSIAN Wife M Female W 25 IN Keeping House IN IN I believe this to be the following marriage: Joseph HESSIAN to Mary R. CARTER on September 23, 1875 in Monroe County, IN. They are next found residing in Floyd County, IN. In case they are the same persons, here is some data on Mary R. CARTER for identification purposes. Mary R. CARTER b. March 3, 1875 Harrison Township, Owen County, IN Parents: Calvin Carter and Rosella Baldwin Mary was a twin of Elizabeth Jane Carter, however this fact was not well publicized in my own lineage, so perhaps another researcher wouldn't know either. Mary disappeared from her parents census records after the 1870, about the same time as her sister was married in Owen County. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Bassham and Earl C. Bassham of Floyd County, Indiana were killed July 11, 1945, and are buried side by side in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. Hello, my name is Dave Dwiggins and I am a retired Hoosier residing in the Philippines. My Filipino wife and I visited the memorial as regular visitors but came home with a mission in our hearts. We had only strolled a few feet onto the well-groomed grass and I was hit by a painful, gut wrenching feeling of loneliness that I felt when I left the USA for Vietnam many years earlier. As I looked over the hillsides there were thousands of graves (17,206) and the only activity was that of the groundskeepers. There were no visitors. http://fizkid.tripod.com/ I focused my camera on a white cross of of an Ohio soldier. At that moment it hit me, why don't I see if I can find a few of these families. Since that time we have located 75 Indiana families, actually there 73, one is from Michigan and another is from New York. A ninety-four year old New Yorek lady never known nor seen the grave of her brother. We couldn't turn her down and she now has a photo. For over a year now we have been collecting information and can't seem to find anything about these Bassham boys. We have contacted 150 Indiana newspapers, over 200 libraries, 50 historical societies and have written thousands of letters to genealogy bulletin boards. We have also searched the American Battlefield Commission database, Indiana servicemen's database, National Archives (NARA) and the Indiana State Library Servicemen database to mention of few of the locations. We figure surely there would be better resources in the Jeffersonville - New Albany area and no doubt someone knows what happened to the young Indiana heroes. In light of the fact that Hampton Sides wrote a fantastic true book, Ghost Soldiers (National Best Seller) and it has been made into a movie The Great Raid which is coming out next week, this would be a great feature if you were lucky enough to find some answers. http://www.apple.com/trailers/miramax/the_great_raid.html The Great Raid is base upon the book by Hampton about the rescue of American POW's that had been incarcerated by the Japanese for over three years after being captured at Corregidor and Bataan in the Philippines. Please help us to find the story about the Bassham boys, killed on the same day and buried side by side in the Manila American Cemetery along with their comrades. This is the largest of all the American Battlefield Commission Memorials in number of grave sites. We thank you in advance for your help and for taking the time to read our story. We have attached the photographs of the Bassham boys final resting place, singularly and together. Clifford H. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3h.2ADE/2074 Message Board Post: Hello the list, We are currently trying to put together a chronological history of the Floyd County Infirmary on Grant Line Road in New Albany, Indiana. The site is also known as the "County Asylum" and or the "County Poor Farm". Of specific interest are any previous research papers, articles or books with historical documentation. All bibliographic references will be greatly appreciated. Our research will also attempt to identify any areas, in proximity to the current building location, that may have been used as a cemetery during the period when the property was used as a County Infirmary. There are at least (2) known cemeteries within the Floyd County Park (current owner of the County Infirmary property). One of these is delineated by a split rail fence and has an historical marker identifying it as the "Potter's Field" There are just a few graves with monuments here, but many more slumped depressions in this area indicate unmarked graves. The other is ostensibly what remains of a small family plot; only one base stone barely visible at the surface. Both of these are some distance from the standing building. There is at least some anecdotal information suggesting that additional burials may have taken place north and west of the Infirmary structure. However, the only burial place indicated on 20th century maps is the one I've described above, and so far we have been unable to locate any plat or map of the property indicating where additional burials may have taken place. Initial inquiries indicate that at least (155) inmates were buried on the County Infirmary premises. Others listed in the death records are shown as having been buried elsewhere. Thanks in advance for any information provided and for pointing us to any historical reference material. If anyone would like to discuss this in more detail, please contact me directly using my personal e-mail address: rgreen@insightbb.com.
