    1. Sears Family Interest Group
    2. David Coy
    3. Dear Family and/or Friends, I have put together a list of email addresses of some relatives, genealogists, and/or interested people, who have at least one thing in common. They are interested in the family history of the Sears Family, which I consider to be centered around Harrison County, Indiana. My particular branch (and that of several others) went on to the Hindsboro/Arcola, Douglas County, Illinois area. My thinking is that we can all learn about our mutual ancestors by sharing what we have learned. I am excited by the prospect of learning more about these people as I hope you will be too. However, now is the chance to request that your name be deleted from this group email list, if you are not interested. I will not be at all offended and will simply drop you off the list. On-the-other-hand, if you know of other relatives, friends, and genealogists, who want to be included, please let me know and I will add them to the emailing list. Perhaps some day we can finance a website, where we can share data and pictures, etc. I am familiar with similar sites on myfamily.com and really enjoy the interaction we have there. Just let me know. If I don't hear from you, I will continue to mail out what I learn about the Sears Family and will forward other people's data too. My interest in the Sears family started at age 15, in July, 1968, when I was staying with my maternal grandparents in Hindsboro, Douglas County, Illinois. My elderly great-grandmother, Maude Luesta (Sears) Strader (1882-1969) accompanied my grandfather and me out to the farm north of Hindsboro to do the chores. On the way back into town, "Ma Strader" asked my grandfather if we could stop at Van Voorhis "Deer Creek" Cemetery to copy down the dates off the tombstones of her paternal grandparents, Enoch and Margaret Sears (my great-great-great-grandparents.) We stopped and after the three of us located the graves in the old section of the cemetery, I copied the names and dates of the weather-worn tombstones onto an old envelope my great-grandmother had in her purse. (I still have the envelope - framed now and hanging on the wall in my genealogy office.) After returning to town, I was intrigued to find out more about these people and how they were related to me. I started interv! iewing my great-grandmother, who had a very good memory of her family. My descent from the first known Sears in our line, goes like this: (subject to change) Johann Georg Zerr (c.1710-c.1800) John Sears (c.1749-1839) m. c. 1778, Catherine Margaret Conrad (c. 1760-c.1822) George Jacob Sears (1789-1857) m. c. 1811, Catharine "Katie" Hon (1789-1880) Enoch William Sears (1819-1874) m. 1840, Margaret A. Hostetler (1822-1893) Stephen William Sears (1852-1934) m. 1875, Laura Belle Stites (1858-1926) Maude Luesta Sears (1882-1969) m. 1902, Alva Curtis Strader (1880-1960) Clifford Anthony Strader (1906-1997) m. 1927, Thelma Easter Allen (1908-1984) Myra Joy Strader (born 1932) m. 1951, Allan Kent Coy (1931-2002) David Kent Coy (born 1953) Just let me know. Thanks. David Kent Coy 123 North 20th Street Decatur, IL 62521-2114 (217) 420-4378 davidkentcoy@mcleodusa.net

Your great-grandfather was a brother to my great-grandmother, Josephine Juliot. She married Francis Brunette and they lived in Pepin,WI. I would like to share what information I have on the Juliots with you. I have hit a brick wall trying to find the passenger ship they came on from Switzerland and the canton in which they were born. Do you have any hints on that? I know that their eldest daughter, Adeline, was born in Switzerland. She married Charles Bradley in Pepin. It is so nice to know that someone else is searching this family also. I am making a trip to New Albany next Wednesday to try to do more research on the Juliots. My mother was Minnie Brunette and may possibly have been named after you great-grandmother. Marcia Rood

Interested in a Polly HAMILTON in 1830 on page 357, who appears to be about age 30-40, with 3 children. Does anyone know who this Polly is? Who was her husband? I am unable to find a marriage record in Floyd Co. for her, so she may have married out of county. (Polly may be a nickname). By 1840 in New Albany, page 124, she is listed as age 50-60, and has two males in the household with her. Also looking for information on a Jesse HAMILTON and a Ferdinand HAMILTON listed in 1840. Elizabeth HAMILTON married Moses HAIGHT in 1835, and I would like to find out who her parents were. Mary HAMILTON married Tobias BRANDS in 1830. And who are her parents? Any HAMILTON helps would be most appreciated! My Reuben HAMILTON who married Sarah FERGUSON in 1833 may be connected to some of these other Hamilton families. Thanks! Tami

In 1830, Reuben was in Bullitt Co. KY - and both may have family ties in Bullitt Co. Would like to find out when Reuben and Sarah died. Looking for cemeteries with Hamilton and Ferguson burials. I don't find them in 1840. By 1850, their two children, Mary born 1834 and Richard born 1838 are back in Bullitt Co. KY living with Sarah's FERGUSON family. Family tradition says that Mary and Richard were left orphaned at a young age. When Richard married in 1866 in Bullitt Co. KY, the record says he is son of Reuban, but does not say if Reuben was present as a witness. I just wonder if Sarah died when her children were young - and perhaps Reuben was still living in 1866. I am unable to find him anywhere, however. Would also like to find parents of Reuben HAMILTON. Any HAMILTON researchers of Floyd Co out there? Thanks so much! Tami

Thanks to the wonderful librarians in the Indiana room at the New Albany library, I have photocopies from microfilm of several marriage records. For only one of these records, however, they also copied the "application for marriage license" which has a wealth of information on it. Does any one know if the county clerk's office has these "applications for marriage license" on file? Or was it only a fluke that I got the one I did?

    3. Having just received a copy of the 1913 Old Time Settlers article and in which it states Thomas, John & Brewer Sinex being brothers and early settlers of New Albany, it also states that Thomas Sinex built the first frame house in New Albany and that he had a lumber yard. Would there be a deed available for this, which according to his arrival in New Albany circa 1816 could be anywhere from then until "when" to have had this home built? When was this first frame home built? Is there any record to establish any proof in this? Antoinette (Tacoma, Washington)

After mailing the info I said I would send, I went back and looked for your family in the 1860 and 1870 census and surprise I was able to find them. I mailed that info today. When you get it you will see why genealogy is such a tough search. The surname in both censuses was different both times and even Henry's given name changed. Couldn't go back any further as before about 1853 they were in France. Merry Christmas. Don
