    1. RE: Floyd Co. Allen's
    2. Chuck, could your Allen's have Cherokee in their background? My Allen's have a native American connection. They came to Jefferson Co., IN from KY around 1805-1810. This was Franklin Allen who married Eliza Kent (her father was David Kent). Some of their children later moved to Floyd Co, IN (New Albany). Some stayed in Floyd Co. and other's moved north to Indy and west to Iowa (Keokuk). Thanks, Janet

    3. Phyllis and FLOYD listers, Sorry to have misplaced this message for so long. Thomas and Nancy ALLEN are my 3g-grandparents. We've been in touch before. I have a lot of stuff on them and their descendants at <http://cwcfamily.org/allen.htm>. A lot of it is just guesswork; maybe you can fill in the blanks or correct the mistakes. The Martha GIBSON you mention in your subject line married their son Thomas; a page on them is at <http://cwcfamily.org/tjallen.htm>. 1. Hindmarch family in New Albany
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3h.2ADE/2124 Message Board Post: I have been trying to piece together my great-grandmother's family with some limited success. They lived in New Albany in the 1860-1930 time period. Her name was Marian E. Hindmarch, b. Dec 1855 in Kentucky. She married first John William Flora on 9 Oct 1872; they divorced around Sep 1884. She never remarried, and was living with my grandmother in California when she died in 1933. I am trying to identify her siblings and parents. As best I can determine, she had a brother Henry (or Harry) who married Mary Catherine Busby 4 Nov 1885 in New Albany. Harry was b. 14 Dec 1859 in Kentucky, and died after 1933. Another possible brother is Matthew, b. abt 1848 in Kentucky, died in 1909. A newspaper article about his death notes his brother, Harry, sister Mary A. Flora (this is the Marian above), and sister, Mrs. W.T. Arnold. It is this sister, Mrs. W. T. Arnold, that is the mystery. I have found a Margaret E. Arnold in the census for 1900 and 1910. I have found a newspaper reference to a Margaret Crutchfield marrying William T. Arnold. But, so far, I haven't found anything that connects Margaret Crutchfield to the Hindmarch family. The 1910 census does indicate that this is a second marriage. So, I am guessing that there should be a record somewhere of a marriage of Margaret to an unknown Crutchfield. Regarding the parents of these siblings: it is possible that the father is John Hindmarch and the mother is Margaret Hindmarch, both born in England. It is also possible that this Margaret married John R. Webb at some point, since Matthew's obituary notes he is the step-son of John Webb, the Constable. I have no other information about them. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?

My aunt says that Jacob committed suicide when the well he had sunk a lot of money into came up dry. She has some pictures - I haven't seen them, she's in PA and I'm in CA - I know, I need to visit, lol Have you been able to find out who were Jacob's parents? Someone on these message boards found that Jacob was born in Missouri about 1843, 2 siblings - John b. abt 1841in KY and Margaret, b. abt 1845 in MO - their mother's name is listed as Margaret but no father's name - and I don't know what happened to John or the Margarets. On one of the censuses Jacob has both of his parents as coming from Bavaria - I don't know when, or if they were married at the time, etc. So... are you a cousin? lol Julie Hornung
