Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3h.2ADE/2129 Message Board Post: I am interested in a Brown family from Floyd Co., Indiana. I have found a marriage license for Lemuel Brown and Margaret Duncan on August 20, 1854 in Floyd Couny. 1860 Georgetown Township census lists a Lemuel Brown with wife Margaret and children George, age 5; Henry, age 2; and William (in later census he is listed as W. Lewis), age 6 mos. Also listed is an 11 year old James Duncan. I am trying to determine if Margaret was previously married to a man named Duncan and James was her son of if James was a younger brother. Family members insist that Margaret's name was Myers not Duncan and I am trying to unravel this. Can anyone help me? This family appears in the 1870 Mercer Co., Kentucky census and then disappears except for two children - George and Danelia who are in Kansas and Missouri in 1880. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

He was shown as a ship's carpenter. James, married Mary Peyton b. 1804, PA. m.29 Sep 1825 in Clark County, IN. Her father was John Peyton from PA. They lived in New Albany and had 4 daughters. Rachel D, Olivia A, Anna M, and Hannah D Reed. I found Anna M Reed, b. Abt. 1839 married to Gideon Meeks, m. 07 Jun 1860, in the 1860 census, both living with her parents. All of the next censuses showed her as still listed as Anna Meeks, but Gideon disappeared after the 1860 census. There was a Gideon Meeks that is listed as having died in the the Civil War and buried in Chatanooga, TN. He died Nov 30, 1863 I have some suspicion he may be the same, but have no proof of family or home residence. Anna (Reed) Meeks was living with David and Margaret (Coombs) Reed in the 1900 census in Tippecanoe County. She died and was buried in Tippecanoe County, d 22 Apr 1901, abt 60 years old. Any information on Gideon Meek, his wife, Anna M Reed or any of the James B Reed's family, I would very much appreciate it. Neil Reed

The nature of the information seems to indicate that it came from a family bible or something similar. Are you a descendant of William Whitlock Sr. or Jr.? In my search for the name of William Sr.'s 1st wife, one clue would be the county in Virginia where William was born in 1795. I have found marriage records in which a William Whitlock married a Nancy Montgomery, and another William Whitlock married an Anne Faris. Both marriages took place in VA in the same time frame where William shows up in Campbell Co. KY. Any ideas?

    2. Chuck Carey
    3. Janet and other Floyd listers, I don't have any evidence one way or another for a Native American connection. The surnames ALLEN and BROWN are both so common that it's really hard to connect them with anybody, although there are some Allens in KY who just might be related. I have nothing definite on Tom and Nancy before they showed up at the Floyd county courthouse 12/2/1820 to get a marriage license. They could have been living in IN already, or just arrived from KY that day. Maybe somebody on this list has the answers.
