    1. [INFLOYD] Capt. James T. Allen & Joseph Wicks
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Allen, Wicks Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/3h.2ADE/1419 Message Board Post: I am looking for information on Capt. James T. Allen and family or Joseph Wicks and family. James Allen and Joseph Wicks are my GGgrandfathers. James Allen was born in Mass. in 1804. He died in New Albany in 1864. He is buried in Fairview cemetery in a vault along with his first and second wife, several children and grandchildren. From what I can tell James came to New Albany with his first wife, Josephine, between 1840 and 1850. The 1850 census list James and Josephine with a child, age 14, born in Iowa so I am guessing that they came from Iowa but have not been able to prove it. Several city directories have James listed as owning a grocery store. After his first wife died in 1853 he married Rebecca Wicks. Rebecca was born in New Albany in 1836. She died in New Albany in 1909. I have quite a bit of information on James after he got to New Albany that I will be gad to share but I do not have anything on him prior to that. Any information on James and Rebecca would be appreciated. Joseph Wicks was born in New York in 1796. He was married to Delilha Alexander. According to Delilah's obituary they came to New Albany in 1817. Joseph also owned a grocery store. Joseph died in 1876 and Delilha died in 1879, Both are buried in Fairview cemetery but I have not been able to find their headstones. Again, I will be glad to share any information I have about Joseph or Delilha Wicks and I would appreciate anything anyone else has. David Conrad [email protected] Huntsville, AL

    2. Marx Family
    3. Jan, thank you so much for all this information. This list is so helpful. Joseph Embs was born in 1848 and was 72 when he died in 1925. I was so disappointed that his death certificate did not list his parents' names. My ggrandmother's name was Mary T. and she was born 12 Dec 1851. His death certicate indicates the "informant" was Edward Embs. This person did not know the names of Joseph's parents. I wonder if it was a son or maybe a nephew. A brother would surely have known their names. I was told that the other Embs buried in Fairview Cemetery were Henry and two Elizabeths. I have the marriage certificate for a Henry Embs and Elizabeth Schneiderhahn. I wonder if this couple is buried there and if so, could Henry be a brother to Joseph. Perhaps someone with the cemetery book could give me whatever dates there are for these people? Thanks so much for everyone's help.
