Linsey 7/14/1875 in Humboldt,Allen,KS 3) m. Dorcus Elizabeth Brady 4/14/1877 in Humboldt,Allen,KS I believe his parents were William Black and Harriet Amanda Clark (which makes sense ofyour guess that his middle name is Clark) Another genealogist recently told me that "he died 10 July 1883 on the farm in/near Salem, Allen Co., KS. I am told that information regarding his service in the Civil War is noted on his gravemarker.. not certain of which cemetery. He served in Battery "H", Second Light Artillery, IL Volunteers, 1 Jan 1862 - 29 July 1865" Sounds like we definately have the same guy - what sources are you using for your information?

He and his wife ,Sarah Jane Walker born about 1846, came to the USA in 1868/1869. They are listed in the New Albany ,IN census in 1970,1880,1900, and 1910. We think he died when he was about 70 years old which would be about 1913 to 1915. Is there a volunteer that would look it up for us? We would really appreciate it if you would. Thank you.

I have seen this book at the library and It is very complete on the schwartz family of Floyd Knobs indiana. If I get up there next year will try to copy what I can if they will let me. You could write the Library and have them check it if you would give them some dates and facts of your tribe. I believe the Geneology department would be glad to help you. If not let me know and I will try to get some info for you. As you kjnow it is hard enuf to get info if everybody is so tight with it. I also have some Family up your way on the Johnston/johnson side and perhaps on the schwartz's brothers side from Prussia Germany. Robert

I noted several excellent suggestions, but the obvious one I have not seen. Have you contacted the NAPD? I doubt that they have any 100 year old files laying around but who knows? In my years as an insurance investigator I found police detectives always willing to talk about a case. WKM

Trouble was, the newspaper articles explained about the scandal of the suicide which we do not believe due to the circumstantial evidence. We think the only way we can set the record straight more than 100 years after his death is a police report and who knows if they kept them. Thanks! Debbie

Thanks for the encouragement...Mom said there was a ladder outside the upstairs window in the light of the next day. Plus, it is pretty difficult to slit your throat by yourself, I have been told...at least the way his was. The family was very embarassed that it was publicized that he committed suicide. He was a police person and we think someone was trying to settle a score with him. Debbie

The same exact thing happened to my great grandfather's oldest brother in Indianapolis in 1922. He was found in an alley, his coat all ripped and with a bullet hole in the back of his head. They called it suicide. If I can accomplish one thing in my life I'd like to prove Johnny was murdered and did not commit suicide as the policeman (who was a friend of the man who "discovered" Johnny's body) declared. Thank you and good luck! Lena
