Was surprised to read the name of Nathaniel Hankins and I realize this is not the Nathaniel that I am looking for but possibly the father John had a brother Nathaniel. The Nathaniel I am looking for married a young widow Jane (Burton) Walker in 1811 Shelby County, Kentucky. She died approximately 4 years later. I do not know if she had any children with Hankins or not, but she had four young children by Walker and her brother Prettyman Burton received/acquired guardianship of them until the daughter Sarah married, then her husband had guardianship of her 3 siblings. Do you have any of this in your family history? Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am trying to find more info on the children of > John H. Hankins. These are the names I was given: Nathaniel 1808, John Henry 1810, George W. 1812, Jeremiah 1818, William Walter 1822, Augustus Frederick 1824, Amanda > 1827, Wilhelmina Henrietta 1828, Richard 1829,and Preston 1831. As you are probably aware, this has been a hard bunch > of kids to track down. Seems like they scattered with the > winds! I have some of the spouses and a few of the children but would like to find all of them. I believe I have most of Wm. Walter's children and spouse but no children. I > found Amanda and husband, Charles W. Keith on 1850 and 1860 > but there may be more children on the 1870. I found Augustus and 5 yr. old son, W.H. on the 1860 Brown Co. IL. I hate it when the census taker was too lazy to spell out whole names! Aparently his wife had died. He was married > to Elizabeth O'Neal 8 Dec 1850 in Brown Co. I was given info > that he died 31 Jan 1898 in Nauvoo, Hancock, IL. > John Henry md Martha Ann Phegley, Wilhelmina md Isaac Hodgen > Keith, and William Walter md Louzena (Lusina) Jones. The > others I don't have. I have been using the Ancestry.com > census index but it has been somewhat a struggle to find > them. As you know, sometimes they are listed by their middle names or just initials. I don't know how accurate all of this info is but it is what I was given or found. > Do you have any more that you would be willing to share with me? Would anyone be willing to help index the 1930 Census for Floyd county, Indiana to put on our county page? I have already copied and finished Franklin, Greenville, Georgetownships and have already started Lafayette Townships. I got a copy of the pages from the library, runs into a little money. However, if several people worked on one township, it would be very reasonable. Or, you may prefer doing it directly from the microfilm itself. Please let me know if you are willing. This would be a name and page only index, so not a real time consumer. I have a template set up for it. If you are interested, please let me know. Sue Carpenter List Mom, Floyd Co INGenWeb

New Albany Indiana newspaper, Public Press, dated 29 Apr 1914 p 5 c 1 Many people called at the undertaking establishment of Newland Gwin, East Third and Market streets to view the body of an unidentified man who was kiled by being knocked from the Silver Creek bridge, a half a mile east of the city, by a Baltimore and Ohio Southwestern freight train Wednesday night, but the identity of the body has not been established. Frank Beaucond, manager for the Home Telephone Company, after looking at the body expressed the belief that it was that of a telephone lineman from Pineville, Ky., who had applied to him for employment a few days ago. Mr. Beaucond did not know the man's name.
