Surnames: OTT HOPPER SUMMERS UTZ BAKER WHITLOCK in Floyd and Harrison Counties Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/3h.2ADE/1849 Message Board Post: William Whitlock (age 74) and his (2nd) wife Julia appear in the 1870 census living in Lafayette Township, with a Floyd Knobs Post Office listed. Neither appear in the 1880 census, so I am assuming that they both died during the 1870's. What major cemeteries existed in the township, other than St. Mary's of the Knobs, where they might have been buried (no evidence that they were Catholic). Their son, William Jr., was also in Lafayette Township. My main objective is to determine William Sr.'s birth and death dates, where in Virginia he was born, and eventually the names of his parents. Julia was the former Julia Ann Monaghan, who married William, Sr. in Floyd Co. in 1835. I believe, but cannot yet prove, that Eliza Ann (Whitlock) HOPPER (1818-1856) was the daughter of William Whitlock, Sr. and his first wife, name unknown.

There is a new book out called Galena Gleanings that is published by the Southern Indiana Genealogical Society in New Albany, IN. Their address is PO Box 665, New Albany, IN 47151-0665. If you will contact them they may be willing to do a look-up of the obituaries or tell you how you can obtain "Galena Gleanings". I recall a lot of Meriwethers being mentioned in it. Some Merriwether/Merriwether/Merriweather's mentioned; in "Galena Gleanings": Brown Merriweather, Charles, David, Elmer, Emily, Esther, Harriet, Ina, James, John, Joserph, Lucinda, Mary , Minnie and others. I think there is a Merriweather Genealogy book in the library also. check the card file at the New Albany library: nafcpl.lib.in.us and click on datbases

Thomas Sinex Vault at Fairview of which I have a listing of persons buried there, including whether East Side or West Side, I have just noticed an Elizabeth SINEX as #23 East Side as dying in 1832. Is there any one who could tell me how to go about finding further information on this Elizabeth Sinex, possibly age, etc., at time of death. Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Also #12 East Side shown as Zeraldon Caroline Sinex dying 1888 ~ for some reason I believe this may be Zerelda Chalista Sinex. Can this be verified as to the actual name. Daily Ledger Standard New Albany 7 Feb 1876 p4 c1 Death Of Another Old Citizen We sincerely regret to learn of the death of Mr. Madison Martin, which occured at his residence in Greenville township, last Friday night. Mr Martin was about 65 years of age and had long been a resident of that township. He leaves his wife, children, and grand children to mourn his loss, as well as many friends, for all that knew him claimed him as a friend. The remains were buried at the Kepley School House graveyard, at one o'clock this afternoon; the Odd Fellows and Grangers, of both of which he was an honored member, turned out in large forces to pay the last sad tribute of respect to their departed brother. The funeral was preached by Rev. Mr. Hutchinson, of the Third Presbyterian Church of this city, and was very impressive ---------------- New Albany Ledger 29 May 1883 p4 c4 Marriage Licenses Madison Martin to Martha Ellis
