    1. Return of the traveler
    2. Thomas S. Fiske
    3. Dear Listers, I am not new to the list, I just have a new email address. I got it because I was forced to move by my family to be closer to them. I guess they wanted hear my dying gasps, although the whole idea of getting out of California may amuse me more than frighten me and I may not gasp much. My new email address is evytom@adelphia.net My new location is Fullerton, CA. I used to live a mile upwind of Santa Anita Race Track in Arcadia, CA. But my heart is in Louisville, KY and New Albany, Indiana. It was in New Albany that my Fiske and Paul ancestors were living until about 1866. The Pauls came from Germany to the east coast about 1820 and then on to New Albany, and the Fiskes came from Rhode Island in 1837 during the Yankee famine. I guess they found something to eat in Southern Indiana. Anyway Mr. Fiske was healthy enough to marry Miss Paul about 1850. It was a civil ceremony; I suspect they were not Catholics. They both died in Louisville many years later, but not before about 1914. I was waiting around to be born at the time and did not arrive until the 1930's, having no idea I would wind up in Southern California, speaking Spanish like the rest of the population. From my bedroom I can hear the regular firework display at Disneyland. I hate Disneyland. Hasta Luego, Tom

    1. African American Cemetery, New Albany, Indiana
    2. Sue Pearson Carpenter
    3. The Southern Indiana Genealogical Society has a new publication that may be of interest to African-Americans The book is called "West Haven, an African American Cemetery in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana" This cemetery was sometimes recorded in Death Records as Rest Haven, West Street, West Union and Colored Cemetery. I saw one reference to it as "Apple Tree Garden." It is located on West Street in New Albany. Includes records transcribed from information found in the cemetery plus some other information such as obituaries. There were not records for everyone buried in West Haven, but over 1600 have been recorded. There is also a list of deeds that was found at this cemetery. This cemetery information has not been available before. Some of the surnames are: Abell/Able, Alexander, Baker, Barber/Barbour, Brown, Buchanan/Buchanon, Carter, Carter, Clay, Finley, Franklin, Gohagan, Grant, Grundy, Henderson, Jackson, Johnson, Jones, Kinslow, Lewis, Manual/Manuel, McPheetersMiles, Miller, Mitchell, Richardson, Roberts, Robertson, Robinson, Russell, Sanders, Saunders, Shirley, Smith, Walker, Wilkerson, Williams, woods, Yates but there are many, many more. The book has an every-name index. The majority of the persons seem to have come by way of Kentucky. This is the largest African-Cemetery in New Albany. For info, please contact me personally. The Southern Indiana Genealogical Society meets on the first Thursday of each month at the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library 180 W. Spring Street, New Albany, IN 47150
