I've found my GGGfather, David Cummings in the Branch Co. Michigan County History. He has been a puzzler for about 4 years, but at last I've got a lead. According to this history, he moved to Indiana for about 15 years in the 1837-1853 time frame. Unfortunately the Branch County folks didn't think WHERE in IN was important enough to mention, but they did mention that he moved back to MI to die about 1870. Sorry these dates are pretty vague. So I'm hoping someone with data on northern IN can help find him for me. He was born about 1799-1802 in Niagara County, NY, had several children, some of whom (my ggfather William and at least another) came to California.
