Five years ago Mr. Spilman, who was a pharmacist, was stricken with a paralysis from which he never recovered, his left side being affected. last Wednesday he suffered another stroke, which caused his death. Mr. Spilman was born at Oakland City, this state, on August 24, 1854. He was a resident of Elkhart at intervals for 25 years. Surviving him are his wife, Elizabeth Spilman; four sons, Hiatt and Seth S. Spilman, the latter a police officer, both of this city, Oliver P. Spilman of Houston, Tex., and Frost B. Spilman of Alamosa, Color., and six grandchildren. A nephew, Harry Kirkpatrick, of this city, was given a home by Mr. and Mrs. Spilman when he was a child. Mr. Spilman was a member of a Knights of Pythias lodge at Oakland City. The funeral arrangements will not be completed until the absent sons are heard from. Spilman The funeral services of John Harry Spilman, who died yesterday at the home of a son, Hiatt Spilman, 1911 South Prairie street, will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow at the home, Rev. C. L. MacKak of the Presbyterian church officiating. The body will be placed in a crypt of the mortuary chapel in Rice cemetery.
