Hi everyone! I've just recently joined the Elkhart County list. I've made several trips to Elkhart County as it is only a few hours from my home in SE Michigan where I live. My primary interest in Elkhart County is the Boomershine Family. I've written two books on the descendants of the immigrant Henry Boomershine, who migrated into Southwestern Ohio, primarily Montgomery County (Dayton area). One of Henry's son's, Peter Boomershine and his wife, Margaret Catherine Rumbarger migrated to Elkhart and many of their descendants are still there today. Peter & Margaret are both buried in Benton Lutheran along with quite a few of their descendants. Peter's stone was broken and laying on the ground but as of my last visit in 2004 there was no sign of the stone at all. Margaret's stone is not broken in pieces but was broken off and was lying flat with grass grown up around it. If you find yourself running into any Boomershine's I would love to hear from you - I'd be happy to share whatever I have that might help anyone who needs it.
