Spilman, 74, White Pigeon Rt 2, former Elkhart policeman, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Walley Funeral home. Mr. Spilman died Thursday in veterans hospital, Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Rice cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Spilman, a former policeman, detective and police captain, was instrumental in incorporating fingerprint analysis as police routine in Elkhart. He retired from the force Oct. 1, 1939 [?]. He was also a veteran of World War I and was a member of the DAV and Fraternal Order of Police, No. 52 [?]. He was born May 24, 1885, in Kinmundy, Ill., and married Mabelle Edger Oliver Oct. 30, 1939. Survivors with his wife include a stepdaughter, Mrs. E. W.
