Weaver, died at 12:45 this afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ruth Schieber, 830 Cleveland avenue. Death was due to dropsy and heart trouble. She had been ill since last March 11. She had been bedfast for the last four weeks, but appeared better this morning. At 12:30 Chief Weaver was at the home and talked with her for a few minutes. He left for the station believing that she was in better health than for a number of days. He had barely arrived at the station when he was called back to the house. Mrs. Weaver was born in Shippensburg, Pa., on May 3, 1881, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Casper Hosfeld. She lived there until she was 22, when she moved to Mishawaka to live with her sister, Mrs. Fred Newcomer. When 25 years of age she was married to Joseph Schmitt of Mishawaka, who died 21 years ago. She married Mr. Weaver on March 29, 1912. Mr. Weaver was then operating a private detective agency in Mishawaka. He later became a member of the Mishawaka police department, and the family moved to Elkhart 16 years ago. In 1920 Mr. Weaver became a member of the Elkhart police department. Mrs. Weaver was a member of the ladies’ auxiliary of the Elks lodge and of several other clubs. She is survived by Mr. Weaver, the daughter, Mrs. Schieber, and two sons, Delbert, 16, and Melvin, 12, and a number of stepstons and stepdaughters. Three sisters, Alice Newcomer, Sarah Paxton and May Neff, and four brothers, John, Arthur, George and Paul Hosfeld, reside in Shippensburg. Transcribed by Mona Gehring liatris875@aol.com
