Surnames: Long Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Vh.2ADI/743.1211.1307.1314.1316 Message Board Post: I have a soldier named John Long, 26 Jun 1842 - 24 Jun 1865 buried in Solomon Creek Cemetery, Benton, Elkhart Co. IN. He is the oldest son of Martin Long and Lydia Searfoss of Benton. I have no information on a middle initial. I have a beautiful color portrait of him in his uniform that has been handed down in my family hanging on my wall. I am a descendant of Martin and Lydia (and of a number of families in the area ie. Otts, Hapners, Judays, Rookstools) I want to find out what unit John fought in but I have had a terrible time figuring it out. A biography of his father (Memoirs of Elkhart Co.) says he died of illness and his body was shipped home to be buried. I would appreciate any help, I am at a loss. Mandy Colgan
