The cemetery has (at least) two sections--one on the north side of the chuch, and one on the west side of the street, thus the two names. Cheers, Geoff

Is your George Akens from Rochester, IN? If so, I know there is a relation, but I am not sure of what it is. In 1915 George and his wife visited my Lewis Akens at his home in Etna Green. Lewis' father is David L. Eakins (m. Eve Smith). I wonder if George was his brother? I would be very interested in hearing what you know about local Akens. I will try your email address, but I'm unsure if it's current. Thanks so much! Rebecca

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Vh.2ADI/2144.1.1 Message Board Post: Darrel: I’m not sure what you mean when you suggest I “Look on-line”. Do you mean to do a Google search? If so, while a key word search of <Bristol California Mining and Trading Association> returns many hits, an exact search returns none. In any event, “Bristol” refers to the town of Bristol in Washington Township, Elkhart County, Indiana, and the obituary for Samuel P. Judson reports him dying “one hundred miles east of Fort Laramie, in the Indian Territory”. Clearly, the <Bristol California Mining and Trading Association> was traveling overland and the title of “Captain” is meant in the sense of chief or leader and not of ship captain. I do appreciate the thought you have given to my query.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Vh.2ADI/2144 Message Board Post: Recently, when visiting the Elkhart County Historical Museum in Bristol, IN, I was shown a newspaper article from the Goshen Democrat of August 15, 1849. The article was an obituary for SAMUEL P. JUDSON who died enroute to California in the Gold Rush. Judson was a prominent citizen of Elkhart County who had formed the BRISTOL CALIFORNIA MINING AND TRADING ASSOCIATION of which he was President and Captain. This association included a large number of Elkhart County residents, a number of whom died of cholera, one of them being Ellis Russell of York Township. I am seeking information about the BRISTOL CALIFORNIA MINING AND TRADING ASSOCIATION and the members of the association. Any tidbits would be appreciated.
