    1. Oak Park Cemetary, Noble Co., IN
    2. Jason Long
    3. Folks, All cemetaries in Noble Co. are indexed on the excellent Noble Co. USGenWeb site to include inscribed dates and location within the cemetary. This might save y'all a bunch of time as it certainly did for me since families often moved between counties, although only a few miles geographically. It would be very nice if Elkhart Co. did much the same with theirs. I don't have time to provide a link, but google should pull it up easily. Jason

    3. Folks, Following up my far too short visit to these cemetaries in Elkhart and Noble Counties last month I will be returning to finish photographing the headstones of my Long, Stiver, and Stroup relations sometime in July. If anyone would like any information recorded for anyone also buried in these cemetaries let me know and I'll be happy to oblige. Jason Long

    1. Grimes Family
    2. Hi does anyone have any other history of the Grimes Family in Indiana and previously Ohio I would greatly appreciated your reply. Isaac Grimes born in Ohio 1831 died 1902 in Indiana, Ellen E...do not have her maiden name..Grimes born 1844 in Ohio died ? in Indiana, Edna Grimes born 1873ish in Indiana died 1960 in Osolo, Indiana on the farm, Hazel Kirke Grimes Reynolds my great grandmother born about 1888ish in Indiana and died 1938 in Poughkeepsie, NY It was mentioned they had three sons that we have no knowledge of but would like to confirm: Grover H. Grimes, born? died? Perry A. Grimes, born 1886, died 1 April 1887. Death recorded in         cemetery index for Noble County prepred by Bev. Shank of Noble         County. age at death 7 months 8 days. Dale Grimes, born 21 January 1896, died 1958 and is buried in Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier. He married Juanita Guthrie. Marriage recorded in "Marriages of Noble Co. 1900-1925, book 18 page 39. To our knowledge they lived on a farm in Osolo, Indiana. The 1870 Elkhart Corporation, Elkhart Co., Indiana shows Isaac age 39, and his wife, Ellen, age 25. Isaac is a dry goods (can't make out next work ... looks like merchant Ret.), and Ellen is a dry goods clerk. Does anyone have access to the Elkart County Court House to see if records are available that may have more information to connect the family. Also, does anyone have access to: in Index to Death Records, Elkhart Co, IN 1882-1920. Isaac Grimes died 20 March 1902 and is buried in Oak Park (Ligonier) Perry Twp., Old - Wayne Twp, Noble Co., IN. Elizabeth is buried in Sparta Cemetery, Noble Co., IN. and was hoping to get the records for the Isaac Grimes plot with other whom maybe burried with him. Sincerely, John L. Reynolds

    2. Peggy, Thank you very much for replying and providing your research. John Does anyone have any other maps of Osolo, Cleveland or other maps that may show the father-Isaac1831-1902 and mother-Ellen E. 1844-?, daughter's: Edna 1873-1960, Hazel 1888ish-1938 Grimes farm. It could be possible the farm may have other Grimes names and am not sure of Ellen E's maiden name and other information about the Grimes. Isaac and Ellen E. were born in Ohio not sure where or who their parents were....all information and relpy are greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sincerely, John L. Reynolds John,    I have a copy of an 1870 land plat of Osolo Twp and there was no Grimes listed.  There were a few that were unmarked.  It did state that Osolo Twp was formerly a part of Cleveland Twp but I don't have a copy of that.  I did check Washington Twp which was fairly close and there was nothing there either.  Sorry to sound discouraging.  It just could be possible that the farm was in a different township in 1870 or listed under a name other than Grimes.  You might want to relist your message to see if anyone has a copy of the Cleveland land plat so that can be checked too.  Peggy

What a job it must have been, as it is now, to not only keep a nation in balance, but to adhere to and respect the wishes of those who formed and set into motion the path of this great nation. I so yearn in my heart that my ancestors had written down their thoughts and reflections of their day and time and of our Nations Presidents who served in office during their lifetimes. Had they left us just a glimpse of the feelings of the times, it would have enabled us to understand them and our country in such a more personal depth. In searching for those who have gone before us and allowed us life and freedom, please don't forget those generations who are yet to come. Allow yourselves some time to personalize your family trees with your own stories and interpretatons of life's events, both good and bad, that have taken place in during your lifetime and how our nation's leaders made history as we saw it. Do you remember the day the Berlin Wall came down? I do. I remember my father, who served in WW II at Utah Beach, Normandy and who along with countless others went on to help liberate Paris and on into Germany freeing those who were left alive in German concentration camps; I remember him watching that Wall come down and seeing in him World War II finally coming to an end. Do you remember how you felt the day the Iran Hostages got off that airplane? I do. Write them down, pass them on, let not the future generations guess at who you were and what you felt during the events of our nation's history. Let them hear what is our present and their history first hand. Let them hear it from you. God Bless You All. And God help us to remember the building and sacrfices of our America and help each of us to live in honor of those who fought and died for us, those who never got a chance to live out their own lives. 1. Good morning and Good bye to a National Leader
    2. James K Brown
    3. Sometimes we wonder what history will remember us for. This week has been a week of grief for the Reagan family and for the people of the United States. My daughters, Amber, Alesha, and Ashley, will someday remember that they were a piece of American History in the years to come. They were able to attend the funeral procession of Reagan on Wednesday. My mother who has seen several state funeral processions in her life was able to actually share and convey her thoughts and emotions to her grandaughters. She gently reminded them, remember that you are experiencing history in the making; remember it well. I wish I knew how to convey the sense of pride I felt in a country where such a diverse group came together to say good-bye to a man who was a leader of our country. As we wove back and forth in the fast moving line, we passed a group of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. I remember the day that I recieved a letter in the mail from the White House signed by Ronald Reagan for obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout. These kids were too young to have remembered Ronald Reagan's presidency, but they were there to pay their respects. There were service men of many ranks and from each branch of the service. Something that caught my attention as I stood in line; the elderly paying their respects to their peer; a father and son team: the father explaining this moment in history; and the military members knowing what great things Reagan did for them. I contemplated the years of decisions that had been made in that building as we stood outside on the steps waiting to enter. I marveled with my friends at the magnificence of the Capitol building as we walked up the marble steps. And I was unprepared for the sense of greatness that hit me as I entered the rotunda area. There are statues of many of the leaders who helped make this a great country. It was at this point that I felt tears well up in my eyes knowing that I was fortunate to live in America where everyone is invited to go in and say good-bye to one of the men who held the highest position in the land. I hope and pray that everyone is able to pay their respect to a President who ended the Cold War, brought respect back to this great country of ours, and ended the Iranian Hostage Crisis. We are better off today because of Ronald Reagan. Sincerely, James To forget one's ancestors is to be a brook without source, a tree without a root." - Chinese Proverb
