Hello, Is there any information on person's who were of age to be in the Civil War, but for some reason were not? Maybe a list of those rejected due to illness or handicaps? For some reason I can't find my gggrandfather in the Civil War, and he would have been in his early forties. He was in Sullivan County in 1860 to 1870. He was Nelson Graham. Any ideas?? Thank-you, Susan
It seems to me that all or most of Indiana's Civil War soldiers were volunteers. Perhaps your relative was not interested in serving, or there were reasons why he felt he could not. Additionally, there were religious reasons why some did not serve. The Quakers nor the Amish would have served I believe.
