    3. From the Handy Book for Genealogists, Indiana Territory was organized in 1800. Between 1700 and 1735 the French built Fort Miami, near Fort Wayne; Fort Ouiatenon, on the Wabash River; and Vincennes, on the lower Wabash to protect their trading interests. Only Vincennes became a permanent settlement. In 1763, the area became British, but Indian uprisings made settlement difficult. During the Rev. War Gen. George Rogers Clark, captured Vincennes from the British and helped end the Indian Troubles. With the end of the war, Clarksville, opposite Louisville, Ky. ws settled in 1784. Following establishment of the Northwest Territory. So what are you looking for and what time period. Illinois terr, and Michigan Terr were taken from Indiana Terr. Knox County was created in 20 June 1790 from the Northwest Terr. Co. Clerk has m rec from 1807, div rec, prorec from 1806 and ct records from 1790; Co rcdr has land rec; co hlth dept has b & d rec Vincennes, IN 47591 Knox county courthouse, 101 N. 7th.
