Can anyone help me understand the boundaries of Jefferson County, Indiana, and its relationship to Kentucky at the beginning of the 19th century? I've located references to a Benjamin Whitson who is named in the Indiana county as "Lister of Taxable property for the county of Jeffsn for the year 1817--" and he is listed as an author and candidate for a place on the Indiana constitutional convention 1815-1816. He was campaigning on his anti-slavery beliefs. I can't find any census reference to him in Indiana or Kentucky. The brief bio I found on him says that he came to Jefferson County from the Carolinas by way of Trimble County, Kentucky. I find him as an executor of a will in Henry County, Kentucky in 1818 (will of Michael Humble who was married to Ben's daughter, Margaret aka Peggy). It's obvious that he was a man committed to his moral beliefs and politically active, but I cannot find him! His descendants lived in Louisville, Kentucky; Scott County, Indiana and Clark County, Indiana (as well as Texas and Louisiana...but that's another story). If anyone can help direct me in my research, I would be very grateful. Georgia Whitson Philadelphia, PA
