Renee, thanks for listing this website. I didn't find any of my ancestors but reading through the Poor Farm records was very interesting as an historical view of what times were like in the latter part of the 1800's and even more recently. Some of the entries were very sad and poignant ... others were amusing partly because of the wry comments of the writer -- i.e. -- one resident "Went away July 20; harness & tools went same day." Another entry described a would-be resident as: "Out of work, 2 wooden legs - Sent him on his way, didn't belong to this county." (seems a bit harsh!) Many children were sent to the Orphans Home at Laport Indiana. A number of young women apparently stayed at the Poor Farm to give birth to illegitimate children, but usually took the babies away with them, or came back for them. One entry read: "Dec 9, 1903 - Mary E. ROUGH - Liberty - Ind - 50 - ------ - Feeble minded - If she dies while here sing We're going home, her favorite song." An interesting read and slice of history.
