    1. [INDIANA] PITTENGER, Cullen, Alexander, Sipe, Leavell, Boyd, Williamson, Moore, Briner,
    2. This book has no cover, and no index, and no author. I bought it on Ebay; it just has the insides, but it is full of Indiana biographies. I am not researching this family, just thought I would share. I do not know anymore about these families or these surnames. NOTE: I don’t know if there is any additional mention of this family in the book, it has no index. I do not want to sell this book. I am typing the biographies from it. Typed by Lora Radiches: Surnames in this biography: PITTENGER, Cullen, Alexander, Sipe, Leavell, Boyd, Williamson, Moore, Briner, CHARLES E. PITTENGER has for many years turned the resources of a well trained mind and his administrative ability to the duties of educational work. Mr. Pittenger holds several college degrees, and is now principal of the Blane Junior High School of Muncie. He was born in Blackford County, Indiana, March 2, 1876, son of Francis and Emily J. (Cullen) Pittenger. His grandfather, Daniel Pittenger, came to Indiana from Ohio. The Pittengers have been in Indiana since early pioneer times, and among other evidences of their early settlement are two Government land deeds, one of them signed by President Andrew Jackson and the other by President Martin Van Buren. Francis Pittenger was born and reared in Delaware County and after his marriage moved to Blackford County, but later returned to Delaware County and he and his wife are now living at 321 North McKinley Street, Muncie. Throughout his active career he was a farmer and stock raiser. His wife, Emily J. Cullen, was born and reared on a farm in Delaware County, adjoining the Pittenger farm. She has always been active in the Methodist Episcopal Church. Her father, John Cullen, came from England. Many of the Pittenger family are buried in the Union Cemetery in Delaware County, while the Cullens rest in the private burying ground known as Cullen Cemetery. Francis Pittenger and wife had five children: Charles E.; James A., a farmer and stock man of Delaware County; Ada, who was first married to John Alexander and is now the wife of Delno Sipe, of Delaware County; Mabel is the wife of Lewis E. Leavell, of Desoto, Indiana, where he is a railroad agent and grain dealer; and Gladys is the wife of Herbert Boyd, of Muncie. Charles E. Pittenger was educated in public schools in Delaware County, and in 1898 was graduated Bachelor of Science from the National Normal University of Lebanon, Ohio. Through the years he has been a student, taking advance work from time to time and in 1923 graduated with the A. B. degree from the Ball State Teachers College. In 1929 he gained his Master of Arts degree at Indiana University. Mr. Pittenger taught his first school in a rural district in 1895. His work was in country districts for ten years, after which he was one of the instructors in the Muncie Normal Institute, now the Ball State Teachers College, until 1907. On leaving schoolwork Mr. Pittenger was for two years in the mercantile business, was elected and served six years as township trustee of Center Township, and during three years of that time was president of the State Association of Township Trustees. For about a year he was a traveling representative for a school supply house and for five years conducted the Reo Automobile Agency in Muncie. On returning to educational work he became head of the general science department of the Wilson High School for one year, and for four years was head of the department of mathematics. He was principal of the Longfellow School two years and in 1920 became principal of the Blane Junior High and Elementary School.
