I know there are new people on the list all the time however they should do some home work before asking for help. There should be a help list available to new list members as to what is needed to supply for different araeas of help needed. Or sent to Myrtle's web site or George Morgan's web site to read on what is proper and improper information to supply to a request for help in given areas census, cemeteries, journals, even Historical Soc. do research for you in a given county, town, time frame. Custer Co., NE Historical Soc. did research for me and the charge was a $5.00 donation to the Historical Society. They sent me an envelope bulging with documents that I did not know was available so I sent them much more than the $5. donation as I felt they went that extra 10 miles for me and they deserved it. But they need names, dates, towns and I was lucky enought to have that but it still took me research time to get that and it was aquired over a peroid of months in conjunction with other research so when it was called for I had it. Which points out save, save, save notes, pieces of family info, dates, any and all oral info supplied. Granted this takes time, genealogy is the use of time, it is a slow going aquisition. I read of persons going to a site and getting generation after generation of family, BUT are they the correct family? are they sure that they are who they are said to be? There has to be checks and balances as in our government. My ancestors mean much to me and I know that they were living persons as I have birth and death documents for them. I am back to ggg grandparents and no '?' marks as to anyone, I feel very fortunate in this but it has been hard work and some has been done on the computer the rest in libraries, county clerks and county health offices. Jefferson Co., IN Public Library in Madison is one of the best kept secrets I know for good record keeping, a library that helps it partons out either in state or out or a visiting ancestor looking. Henry County, New Castle Public Library is another good source in research. One county I will not mention has a very , very, small genealogy library maybe 10x10 with few books. The county does not even have any census online, did not see any computors for census extraction in house. Well, I did not intend to write a book but these are thoughts that I wanted to relate to new researchers as to what they sould furnish to someone nice enough to offer help to them. HELP does not mean to do the research for you, help it just that for the time being, instant, for a name or two not a whole line. Me I have asked for help but not one word has been said to what I am in need of, so I am not sure ceneteries around Charlottsvill, IN exhist. 'So guess I will have to take a two wk stay close to that town and drive every road with a plat map and mark cemeteries I find and walk them to find my g grandmother Widvey's last resting place. My researach is long distance.............. Beej in AZ
