    1. [INDIANA] The 1891 Grain Dealers and Shippers Gazetteer
    2. I started my search in KY this am and found this very good site. It is on RR's and where they start and where they go w/maps and the maps are great. Even tho it is a KY site of that state it has maps of RR's of NE, KS, IA, WI, IN and many more you will be surprised what you will find. I was in the Chigaco, Cincinatti, and Hamond that also include Indianapolis IN in the map and it is very easy to read. The man that did this site has done a great job. Would make it easy to trace a person that traveled the rails from one spot to another. This site has much to offer and much to find. Even tho the title is Grain Dealers and Shippers the rails were also used for passenget trains they just had different schedules and the RR sidings were for the slower trains to pull off so the faster less heavy and slower fraight trains could pull over and let the faster less weighty passengers trains go on without delay of a slower speed. 1. [INDIANA] 1900 soundex?? does anyone have access to it?
    2. I have a terrible name I'm looking for and thought perhaps the soundex would be the best place to look for them. Looking for George D. and Wm. Lemerick/Lemrick/Limric etc these brothers have been found living together on the 1870 Census in Gr. Co.IN as young married men and then again on the 1910 census in Monroe Co.IN as widowers.......would really like to find them on the 1900 census......George was buried in Owen Co.IN, but only with a Civil War headstone, no dates given. So they could be in any of these three counties. George D. b. ca1842 OH William b. ca1846 OH thanks, N.J.Skinner White vwhite0901@aol.com "Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past." (Deuteronomy 32:7a)

    3. Hello Barbara...... I use the following link all the time http://www.usgenweb.com/statelinks.html Click on the State of interest...... And then click on the County....... Every County does it's own thing and some are adding new databases all the time....... Be sure to "Bookmark" and check back frequently........... Some of the Counties in various states do have Township maps...... 2. Renee O.
    3. Thanks Janet, you gave a more complete answer than I did. That is the database I was talking about. There is a really nice collection online free if you have Fulton Co. ancestors at the Fulton County library. I found the announcement of my gg-grandparents when they were not listed on any marriage index. From that I was able to point the county clerk to the approximate page and she actually found the marriage for me. This site also has a really nice marriage index for Fulton Co. They have tried to fill in whole names where only initials were found on the original index. Just a note, I found the marriage announcement on the link for Fulton County Obituaries/Biographies and not on the Fulton County Marriage Records link. The Marriage records link is the one with the enahanced index. http://www.fulco.lib.in.us/genealogy/fulcogenealogyfrontpage.htm Renee ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janet" <janet.snyder@attbi.com> To: <INDIANA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, April 19, 2003 9:54 AM Subject: Re: [INDIANA] NEW LISTER NEEDS HELP - PLEASE The Newspapers online refered to most likely is the "Historical Newspaper Collection 1815 - 2001", one of the Ancestry.com's subscription databases...... 1. [INDIANA] Poor farm records
    2. Jeanne Surber
    3. Renee, thanks for listing this website. I didn't find any of my ancestors but reading through the Poor Farm records was very interesting as an historical view of what times were like in the latter part of the 1800's and even more recently. Some of the entries were very sad and poignant ... others were amusing partly because of the wry comments of the writer -- i.e. -- one resident "Went away July 20; harness & tools went same day." Another entry described a would-be resident as: "Out of work, 2 wooden legs - Sent him on his way, didn't belong to this county." (seems a bit harsh!) Many children were sent to the Orphans Home at Laport Indiana. A number of young women apparently stayed at the Poor Farm to give birth to illegitimate children, but usually took the babies away with them, or came back for them. One entry read: "Dec 9, 1903 - Mary E. ROUGH - Liberty - Ind - 50 - ------ - Feeble minded - If she dies while here sing We're going home, her favorite song." An interesting read and slice of history.
