Sorry! I always forget that this list is set to reply to list instead of reply to sender. I caught this as the mail was being sent, but was not quick enough! I am researching the SWEASEY/SWAYZE Family in Dearborn County. there was a DAVID SWAYZE listed in the 1840 index, but I could not find them in the 1850. ( The film was pretty bad). In a deed dated 5 May 1852,DAVID SWEASY and ELIZABETH his wife of Dearborn County sell to THORETEA (?) HARTZ the West 1/2 of the NW 1/4 of Section 5-7-2W. for $700.00. In another deed dated 12 August 1852, RICHARD C. SWEASY and COMFORT his wife; JOSEPH SWEASY and ELIZABETH his wife; JEMIMA C.SWEASY;JOHN M.M. SWEASY and ELIZABETH M.SWEASY and DAVID J. SWEASY all of Dearborn County sell to JAMES BOSTIC of same place for $200.00 the NE 1/2 of the nW 1/4 0f Sec. 21-5-3 West- 20 acres. I figured they probably lived in Dearborn County in 1850 so the should be in the 1850 census, but I don't have access to the 1850 index. They do not appear in the 1860 census. Can anyone help? Thanks,Clyde
Jackie, I found 2 John Laws in the 1840c One in Knox, but there were several grown men and a large family. And that John Law was there 1820-to at least 1860. This one below fits better? Any chance that you are descended from John Root and Maggie Wenger or James Clyde Root and, well, not sure what his second wife's name was, possibly Lieurnis....something like that on the census. My g-grandmother was his first wife, Mary Carr who died of tuberculosis shortly after my grandmother, Mildred Root was born. My Hoffman maternal great-grandparents had one child, Egar D., who was supposedly born in St. Petersburg, Indiana, in 1859. I cannot find St. Petersburg via Mapquest, Google, or Yahoo. Does anyone know if and where this community might have existed and how I might find birth records for someone born there? I would like to know if any of the other siblings - specifically Bertram, Alonzo, (who both died in their youth) and Charles F. - were born there also. The Hoffmans came from Ohio. And the family was in Michigan by 1868. My grandmother Alice Belle, the baby of the family was born in Lansing. I am assuming that the family may have just been passing through on their way to Michigan if only this one child was born there. If St. Petersburg was in the north eastern corner, and only Edgar was born there, this would help to confirm my assumption. Edgar D. Hoffman b. Dec 1859 St. Petersburg, Indiana d.
