Beej, You find the most interesting sites! Thanks. I sent this one to several of my lists, especially the TN ones. To me, it seems these types of graves harkens back to the rock Cairns in the British Isles. Maybe it is the Scotch-Irish influence? They surly did settle those eastern Mountain States. Carleen
This was a very enlightening article about hill side burials in the mountainous sections of our country. Even to fence line burials that I had never head of, but would be very much of the thinking of farmers on land that was not very furtil and/or small farms that needed to sustain the family. This is an article I recived as a hit in reseaching grave houses and/or shelters. It is hight plausable that our ancestors, mt. men, explorers, and such might contrive such a shelter in their wonderings across this vast country of ours in the northern regions of our country. Articles:Snow Shelters http://www.auchnarrow.demon.co.uk/shelters.html

Franklin After graduation from high school, Charles M. Franklin served a hitch in the United States Navy. Upon his discharge, he entered Purdue University and was trained under the G. I. Bill as an entomologist. Later he began to work as an entomologist in Indianapolis, Indiana. Like many people around the time of the Bicentennial, he became interested in researching his own family tree. He quickly determined that searching for people was much more fun than searching for bugs. He began copying all early marriage records from his home county. Then, for his convenience, he typed his notes out and alphabetized or indexed them. He was intrigued by a flyer left at the Indiana State Library about a genealogy shop opening in Indianapolis in 1975. He tucked his records in the car and came to see what it had. Ray and Pat Gooldy, the owners, met him at the door and the three had a good conversation about his genealogical progress. Encouraged, he showed them what he had done for his Owen County ancestors. Shortly thereafter, he became a researcher/author transcribing records for the shop to publish. He held that job until he passed away on January 1, 2001. Mr. Franklin spent over twenty-five years of his life as a professional researcher. He took private clients for many years. He also worked for Ye Olde Genealogie Shoppe as a full-time professional researcher and an author of over 175 books that the shop still publishes continuously. During this period, he collected much of the material and wrote the above books as he traveled from court-house to courthouse. Gathering the information for the Indiana Wills Project took over three years and involved trips to every courthouse in Indiana. In eighteen cases, he had to stay up to two weeks to copy from the original books which had not been microfilmed at that time. He and Pat Gooldy, originator and editor of the Indiana Wills Project, spent over two months reading and spelling out the draft copy against the original wills data. Information that had been provided by Mr. Franklin. That material had been loaded on the computer was scrutinized and proofed in every detail. Eight wills that had been missing when the original draft was first numerically proofed were found during this process and loaded in the computer before the final run.. Never happier than when he was prowling around a dusty courthouse, he was untiring in his quest to obtain information for his clients and make sure his books were the best possible.. Participation in the National Archives' yearly seminar for genealogists was a highlight of the many educational events he attended. He was always adding to his professional credentials. He attended over a dozen seminars yearly. Mr. Franklin researched extensively in many states in the eastern half of the United States, but his first love, and most abiding interest, was in the abstraction of Indiana and Kentucky genealogical records. A lifetime of application to genealogical matters has resulted in a body of work that reflects well on him and his enthusiasm for his chosen profession.

Check with your Internet Service Provider to see if they offer web space with your account. Many ISPs offer 5Mb or 10Mb of space for free with an account, with the possibility of purchasing additional space. It's a good place to start looking. Does anyone out there know where I can have a family site WITHOUT being charged for it? MyFamily just notified me that they want money or I can't get back in not even to remove my site! Any help would be greatly appreciated. K Hribal
Rootsweb and Genealogy.com both have free sites. The latter is for users of Family Tree Maker software. I'm sure there are others. Do a google search for "genealogy web hosts" or something similar. k hribal wrote: > > Does anyone out there know where I can have a family site WITHOUT being charged for it?
