    1. Re: [INDIANA] Indiana State Archives
    2. No the Genealogy Division is not moving, just some archival material that researchers use in other parts of the Indiana State Library building. The newspaper division is also NOT moving, an area that I often use. So that's good news. I guess the only up side to this, is that MAYBE the genealogy division will get some more space. Jack

    3. This is just a shot in the dark -- but I saw your posting that said in part: - - - - > George Young has a picture of this statue on his web site. Its from a well > known book of the area. Go here and scroll down...While you are there, if you > know any of the Young family...tell us that too; we would be so happy! > Carleen - - - - My great-aunt married Benjamin Gibson Young in Iowa after the Civil War. He had been born and raised in Virginia, was a Quaker, but must have believed deeply in the Union cause as he served twice in the Civil War. Near the beginning of the War, he had come from VA to Indiana -- served for Indiana -- then later for Iowa. That information came from one of his descendants -- and I believe that the entry below record his service for Indiana. His descendant says that Benjamin became ill, was discharged, and returned to Indiana before going on to Iowa to join a brother living there -- where he substituted for another man and went back to the war. I'm guessing that Benjamin Gibson Young (always known as "Gib" or "Gibson") had family in Indiana -- probably in the Peru area. Does anyone recognize these Youngs? ====== INDIANA SERVICE RECORD Residence Peru IN; Enlisted on 8/4/1862 as a Private. On 8/4/1862 he mustered into "C" Co. 2. If you had a name and a birthdate then it would take looking thru every county that IN has. Their is a unknown county site on the rootsweb.com, but only available when they have updated. Teddy

    2. Greetings, Hi all, I wanted to give you a heads up. The biographies that I am typing I am going to post to this mail list only: in-rooters@listserv.genexchange.com I have been trying to share the wealth, and in doing so, I have double posted thinking I left someone out of the loop. It will be much easier for me to post to one place. So if you would like to join the mail list above, you will be able to keep reading the biographies. Thanks for reading, My Best, Lora, Jax, Fla

    3. Hello, Shelly If you have the nameof the person, and birthdate, I think you can eventually turn up Info. on them. Post the name and Bdate on Indiana List, if its Indiana. I do think its harder if its a woman. But with the name, and the bdate to verify the person..you can find them or a further clue...Just be persistant..Good luck, Alice ----- Original Message ----- From: <SChance47@aol.com> To: <INDIANA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 26, 2001 3:00 PM Subject: Re: [INDIANA] I'll do research in IN if you wish. > Is it possible to find a person if you have a birthdate, but no county? > Thanks. > > Shelly Galloway > > > ============================== > Shop Ancestry - Everything you need to Discover, Preserve & Celebrate > your heritage! > http://shop.myfamily.com/ancestrycatalog > >

    3. Hi Teddy, I read your post (below), and would like to request, if I may, a death, obituary, and/or a burial/cemetery record......ANYTHING....regarding the death of my g-g-g-grandmother, Harriet (VAN ARSDOL....many other spelling variations) KENTON. I have not been able to locate any info on her death. I know that she and my g-g-g-grandfather, John A. KENTON lived in Jasper Co., IN for about 18- 20 years after they married in 1840 in OH and moved to IN soonafter. I found them in Jasper Co., IN on the1850 census, then in 1860, they were no longer there. John A. KENTON had moved to Olathe, Johnson, KS with his family, but Harriet was missing (as per 1860 KS census).
