I think Teddy's charges for look ups is very reasonable. I order a lot of documents from various sources and I have never felt the fees were unreasonable. Some of my ancestors are in Oregon and I am in Ohio. Without those wonderful research angels I never would have found my "missing" aunt. I am still wondering why she went from Indiana to Oregon in the early 1920s -- seems like a very long trip. My message to Teddy - thank you for all of us you have helped.
Teddy, That would be great. My Great Grandfather was married to a Julia (Griffin) Crothers in 1876. They had a son Deverter who was born 1878. Sometime between his birth and the 1900 census he died. On the 1900 census Julia is listed as a widow. I have been to Parke County but never during the week when I can do research. Am planning on being there the middle of next month for a couple of days. I believe that he is buried in the Miller cemetery in Lodi but cannot confirm that. All the other family is buried there including Julia. I did find a grave stone there that had Elizabeth wife of Joseph Gill she died in 1865. But cannot confirm if this was a wife before Julia or not. This stone was located in the same area as Julia's stone so am assuming there is a possibility. Hope to find that out and maybe there might be a clue as to his parents. Been told that he was born in 1804 in Ohio, but searches thus far have turned up nothing in Ohio, so I am checking Ohio, KY and Ohio, Indiana, and I think there is also an Ohio, IL. Somewhere along the line it was noted that he may have been born in VA, but cannot prove that either. Was hoping to find a death certificate but no luck so far due to the fact that I do not know when he did die. So any help I can get along the way is most appreciated. Thank You! I have one certificate, and two records for IN. that I got the information from the WPA books at the State Library, they are not listed at the marriage site, so even if you don't find them there, they still could be in the WPA books, it's just too much time to look for ones you don't even know the county. I have had people wonder why i WOULD CHARGE TO DO LOOKUPS, IT IS $7.00 FOR PARKING, NOT COUNTING THE TIME AND THE MONEY TO DO THE COPIES, SOMETIMES ONE DOESN'T COME OUT RIGHT, SO YOU HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN TO MAKE SURE IT LOOKS good enough to read them. If I had the sources here at home it would be a different thing. And I do something's for free also. Teddy Searching Brady, Bruner, Ford, Fulkerson, Vertrees
I wanted to search the 'Most Wanted' site! Thanks,Carleen
Parke Co. does have other sources, Will's and deeds I can't remember how large the drawer is, but I do know that there are some counties with little records, but Clay, and Vanderburg had marriage certificates, they even say that Vanderburg has divorces papers also. I can look and see if there is a Gill in the records of Parke Co. I know I looked at the Parke County records this last week. Teddy Searching Brady, Bruner, Ford, Fulkerson, Vertrees

Hello Elaine, Do you know when the Rockville courthouse burnt? This more than likely why I cannot find the information that I am seeking on my Great Grandfather, Joseph Gill. Dear Jan, I don't know if this will help much but do know that the Rockville (Parke County) courthouse burned. My grandmother's birth cert. also unobtainable. My grandmother, mother and I born and raised in Burnett, Indiana, very near Terre Haute. Regards, Elaine.
Nelda, I looked in the Hamilton Co. IN early marriage records for 1833- 1846 and could not find a marriage for any GILPIN, BATES or GRAVES or GUNN's reaghgeny@aol.com
Hello List, I am seeking the parents and siblings of GEORGE W. BURNETT, Birthplace, Indiana. I have no idea the county. That was all I could find on census, death certificate, etc. On a tape, made when she was very old, his wife Mary told this story. George's mother was killed in an accident or died suddenly, when he was an infant. There were other children, don't know ages or how many. George was adopted by Shoemaker/Shumaker/Shoebaker??? He lived with them until the courthouse burned. It destroyed the adoption records. I don't know his age at the time this occurred. He must have been fairly young, because he was in Kansas by April 14, 1900. He married Mary M. Bell on that day. He said he couldn't have left if the records were still available for his adoption. Reason unknown. When he left Indiana, he took back his birth name Burnett, and continued to use it until his death. This is a brick wall. I would really appreciate any help or advise you could provide. If you have any information, you may Email me at JANETSQUAW@aol.com Thank you in advance for your help. Respectfully yours, Jan

JERICHOFRIENDS MEETING And It's Community Randolph County Indiana 1864 The people of a community make its history. If there are no people, there is no history. The folks who lived and worked near Jericho are the center of interest for us. Other matters have importance only as they affect these folks. Some caution must be used in determining just who did and did not live in this early community. First to be eliminated are those absentee land owners who may be classed as land speculators. There were several of these. Next it must be realized that some individuals who entered land never lived on it, or at any rate not at or near the time of entry. Benjamin Cox, Richard Mendenhall. John and Henry Lawman. John Coats and perhaps Joseph Hickman are examples of this type. Next there were those who lived in the neighborhood, but due to lack of money or to other causes, did not enter land for some time after occupying it. Such folks depended upon making enough money as squatters to be able to purchase the land, before it was purchased by some one else. Neighborhood sentiment often frowned on attempts to purchase land, which had been so occupied, and thus protected the squatter,to an extent, till he had opportunity to effect his purchase. The residents of the first Jericho Community (prior to 1830) are listed with considerable caution. In determining the families to be included, the following sources have been depended upon: Land entries. Tucker History; Genealogicalrecords; Minutes of the White River MM. Marriage Records; and other sources. It is believed that the listing is reasonably accurate. These people are shown in Table II, with their families, where these could be found. The first group of people, whoentered Government land near Jericho, did so by the end of the year 1826. Two or three purchases appear later, but no more entries of government land till 1831. Entries began in 1818. There was thus a considerable period when activity was stagnated, due perhaps to the post war depression, which followed the war of 1812. This early group was then isolated for perhaps half a generation andso will betreated as a group to themselves. Abram Peacock, his son Amos, his son-in-law Henry Hill, and Henry's brother, Benoni were the first to arrive in the spring of 1818. The Hills and the Peacocks were from Guiliford County, North Carolina, where they belonged to the Back Creek Friends Meeting. All of these families settled first in Wayne County, Indiana, and spent a year there. They left Wayne perhaps partly under the influence of Jeremiah Cox, one of the first settlers in Wayne, who lived on the present site of the city of Richmond, and who was averse to the establishment of the town. He purchased Government land at Jericho, also in 1818, though he did not move here till later. It is probable that this group came up to Jericho from Wayne by way of the Quaker Trace, which passed a short distance to the east and had been laid out only a year previous.
