We all need to put the real subject in the subject line, or we are going to delete anything that doesn't apply to us. I'm not opening anything else about the Land records, and I did look at one and it wasn't about Land records Teddy
I don't really know, and that probably seems odd to you. Charley Bear and I have been married 37 years he was born in 1915 in Bowie, Co. (he just went into a Care Center three weeks ago, he has alzheimers, and I could not care for him anymore). I do know that his Dad came from Yugoslavia and his Mother came from Italy. When his Dad got his citizenship papers, he changed his name from Medved to Bear which was the English name. His Mothers name was Marta. I am not sure where they settled before here but I have heard they went to Butte, Montana. Most of those who were relatives then came to this valley for the Coal Mine industry. Charley's Dad opened a coal mine in Somerset, Co. in the early 1930's and when Charley was 14 he had to quit school and help get the mine started. Charley's Dad's name was Anton "Tony" Medved until he changed it to Anton "Tony" Bear when he got his citizenship papers in Gunnison, Gunnison, Colorado. Of course all his family took the Bear name after that. I don't know as this is help to you but hope so. I hope you have heard from Charley's daughter Betty as she has done lots of research on the Bear family. Best Regards and feel free to contact me anytime. Lynne Holder Bear

Thank you very much Lynne, I found all of the Bear surnames in doing look-ups from the marriage index for Daviess County, Missouri. Do you have family that went into Missouri? Alot of Bear's. Joe-- We purchased a CD burner. It holds 10 times the amount of a Zip disc. Blank re-writable CD's are $3. Rick
Good Morning, I have two BEER brothers that married two ETHINGTON sisters. I'm wondering if the Beer surname could have been transcribed into Bear as I don't find any more Beer names around but plenty of Bear. Kathy I had Zip drive 250 installed on my computer a year ago. I store all my information there. One 250 disk will hold information off 144 floppys. Just something to consider, Then you will always have it. The Disks cost about $10 apiece. Joe
Regarding: http://khuish.tripod.com/ Hello folks, For some reason Tripod deleted my account on their server, without so much as contacting me. Not sure if someone misunderstood something or what, but hopefully it was not done maliciously. What's this mean on this list? Besides Firstmom's Genealogy Resources, my Indiana genealogy links page, over 2300 other categorized genealogy links, ship passenger lists and my own family tree, the site also included: Lake County Marriage & death Records Lake Co Birth records 1862 Tax List & 1918 Tax assess WWI deaths Some Lake co cemetery transcriptions Close to 200 Newton Co Biographies and lots of other records transcribed by me and other volunteers. I had them on my tripod server to free up some of rootsweb's much needed space. If anyone knows of a good place to store these records, and more to come, please let me know. I tried signing up for one place but they said no text type pages that couldnt have banners all over them (such as the record files), plus with my good computer down (unrepairable) most of the free servers Ive tried signing up for crash this old 486. Hopefully I will have the records and site back up, somewhere, or at least on the Rootsweb server, within the next couple days. Single working mom, but I will find the time! Sadly, Kathy

Hey everyone - just on the news about Hackers. They showed the skull & bones (that you all said was on the gov. land records sight - they say it lays dormant until it is "activated" - which I assume means someone logs onto the site. But - the news said most users won't have problems but if you have DSL or cable modems - you might want to update your privacy because (& it wasn't real clear so forgive me if I'm mistaken) - the hackers can "capture" some of your stuff. Sorry this is off topic - just thought it was important. I won't mention this again. Wendy
