    1. Re: [INDIANA] Arthur Cemetery Greene County Indiana??
    2. Dwayne Flynn
    3. Arthur Cemetery is located in Beech Creek Township in Section 18. Go north out of Newark on County Road 735N then east on County Road 760E about 3 miles on the north side of the road. This is according to the book "Cemeteries of Eastern Green County, Indiana" Revised Edition, 1994 by the Greene County Historical Society. 3. At the actual NARA location, there is an index of soldiers. The Confederate list is in alphabetical order wtih all soldiers inter-filed. The Union list is broken down by state, then filed alphabetically by soldier's last name. However, when I requested the actual Pension records for my Confederate ancestor, the copies were filed in the STATE he was living in at the time of the request. To make it clearer: he fought for South Carolina in the war, but his records were on file in Arkansas which is the state he was living in when he applied for his pension. 1. [INDIANA] RE: Elizabeth Dittemore etc
    2. Dick Carter
    3. I have been looking for 30+ years for a marriage record for John Carter Jr and Eliza/Elizabeth Nutterfee/Nutterfield... This John Carter Jr is not to be confused with the John Carter who married Elizabeth Betsy Goss Dittemore et al... Carter/Nutterfee marriage would have occurred 1831-1833 in probably Indiana, but, perhaps in Ky... I have checked them all, but, have found nothing... Also, I am trying to find relationship between John Carter of Morgan Twp, Owen Co., In and John Carter of Taylor Twp, Owen Co., In. ( about 10 miles apart) when there were not too many people around...John Carter of Morgan Twp was from Montgomery County NC... Settled in Indiana about 1829, had many sons, and all had sons John, Calvin, and Columba... All of which are names in "my" John Carter's family... To add insult to injury, when "my": Columba Carter, son of John died in war, His widow married a John H Carter, apparently related to neither John Carter that I knew about... Any help appreciated... I would appreciate any information on a John Carter marriage, regardless of who the bride was... Dick Carter rcar37@prodigy.net

    2. Hi Listers, To all of you seeking Civil War service records I would suggest you try the regional NARA located nearest your ancestor's place of enlistment. They should have the muster rolls and other military info on film. If you can get there copies are just $.30 for a 17x11 page. I copied my G-G-Grandfather's complete file for about $3.60. Ed

    2. < I'd like that information also, but I have ask at the State Library, and they don't know the infor, so we will have to send the money to the NARA, and get them, I sent for them before the rate increase, and still haven't heard, think they just threw some them away instead of answering them. >> Teddy, You can get some Civil War info from the Indiana State Archives....but the info is very limited, nothing like you can get from NARA....their cost is higher, but the amount of info you get is also lots more. What you basicaly get from the State is a packet...with probably a discription of the solider and his date and place of muster....not much more than that....cost is like $4.00 when I got mine last year. Hope this has helped......and don't give up on the NARA records coming.....they often take months to get back to you. N.J.Skinner White in MI.

    3. Thank you - Beryl Gordon got as far as I did - my grandmother was his father's sister. We've exchanged family stories and it seems the fathers are the ones who seem to go to ground- his grandmother's side of the family can be traced further back than his grandfather's. As they say, go figure... Kathy

    3. Hi Kathy, Howard Gordon came to Wash Co from 1814 to 1818 from KY. Another reference has him coming to Wash co in 1824. It says he settled in Monroe Twp. He was born in VA. I also found that Mary Shields was born near Knoxville, TN if that is of any help. I got this information from the Washington Co. history books. Hope this helps. I will keep my eyes open.
