    3. Lora, You still haven't listed the CD that you are using for the marriages. When I found the Konrad marriages in Indianapolis in September 2000 I found in the WPA index for Marion County two marriages for Henry Mootz and one for Frederic Mootz. I didn't know of the existance of Christina or Phillip at the time and later learned of them and that Christina became Mrs. George Backer. Thanks. Bob Konrad

    3. Sorry to interrupt your email to Lora; however, I would like to ask a question: How might I secure information regarding the marriage of my father and mother in Indinapolis, I believe in the late 30's or early 40's? I like in California and have reached a 'wall. Thanks! --mike dalby -----Original Message----- From: Robert J Konrad <rjkonrad@juno.com> To: INDIANA-L@rootsweb.com <INDIANA-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Friday, April 20, 2001 6:02 AM Subject: Re: [INDIANA] Re: Konrad Marriages >Lora, >You still haven't listed the CD that you are using for the marriages. >When I found the Konrad marriages in Indianapolis in September 2000 I >found in the WPA index for Marion County two marriages for Henry Mootz >and one for Frederic Mootz. 3. Lora, Thanks for the Konrad marriage listing. It contained the marriages of my parents Henry & Catherine O'Mara, my Aunt Rachel Konrad and my grandparents. John Konrad and Katharina Mootz. I had found my parents & my Aunt Rachel's when I visited the Indiana State Library in Sept 2000 in the WPA index. I and a volunteer had looked high & low for my grandparents marriage without success. What is the source for all these marriages you are reporting? When there is no age, does that mean there was none on the application or that it was not transcribed? I have my grandfather with ages at death from 54 to 70 and am trying to document his birth date. Can you do marriages in Indiana for my great Uncles and Aunts, Christina Mootz married George Backer in 1890's also Frederick Mootz, Henry Mootz, and Phillip Mootz. Also the children of these great uncles & aunts. Thanks a million. I really would like to know your source data base. Bob Konrad, Peachtree City, GA

    1. [INDIANA] ABNER M. BURNS b.Jefferson Co, IN 10/13/1815 IN to IOWA
    2. Decatur County Journal Iowa June 22, l893                        AT REST--GONE HOME.                            - - - - - - In the absence of ELD. F. EDWARDS, we were called to conduct the funeral services of Brother ABNER M. BURNS, on Tuesday, June 20, l893, who departed this life at his late residence in Leon, Iowa, Monday, June l9th, after weeks of weary watching and waiting, but the summons found him ready and fully ripe for the change. UNCLE ABNER, as he was familiarly called, was born in Jefferson County, Ind., October l3th, A.D., l8l5, making him 77 years, 8 months and 6 days old.  He was married to MISS ELIZABETH KINNEAR in l836.  In the year l849, he emigrated to the west and settled in Davis County, Iowa; lived there five years and in l854 settled in Decatur County, one-half mile west of Leon, where he and his wife have continued to reside and make their home. Ten children were born to them, six of whom--five sons and one daughter--remain to mourn the loss of a fond and affectionate parent. The children are badly scattered, i.e. one in Colorado, one in Nebraska, two in Montana, and two in Iowa. Brother BURNS has been a professor of religion for over 52 years.  His walk rather than his talk evidenced to the world a character of his inward joy and life.  He and his good wife helped to organize the Leon Baptist Church 39 years ago, and amid its checkered career of sunshine and shadows, they have remained faithful. The floral tributes that covered the casket evinced that his life had left its imprint upon his neighbors' hearts.  Loving hearts cared for him while sick and tenderly laid him to rest beside the dear ones gone before.  The children were all present save two, who could not get here. The Scripture lesson was read from Romans 8: l-28, and 38, and 90; verses of same chapter, used as a text.  REV. W.G. HOHANSHELT assisted us.  We have seldom seen so many aged persons present at a funeral whose heads were already white for the harvest that awaits us all.  May God in his loving kindness bless and guide his aged companion and all the kindred is our prayer.                                  J.H. BURROWS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert

    1. [INDIANA] MARY MILLSAP born 1841 in Lawerence County, IN moved to Iowa OBIT
    2. Decatur County Journal Iowa February 9, l893 MARY MILLSAP died at her mother's home four miles west of Decatur City, last Thursday, aged 42 years. She was born in Lawrence County, Indiana, and moved to this county in l853.  When l7 years of age she became converted, joined the M.E. Church, and always lived a consistent Christian life.  In September, l886, she sought and obtained the experience of entire sanctification and ever after lived a consecrated life.  Though an invalid for the past eighteen years, she was patient and resigned in her afflictions.  She said she did not fear death and only desired to live longer that she might do good.  She had a word of encouragement for everybody and met death saying, "The will of the Lord be done". Her death is the first to occur in a family of eighteen children--eight boys and five girls.  The children were all present at the death bed. The funeral exercises were conducted at the house by REV. W.G. HOHANSHELT, last Friday, after which the remains were laid to rest in Woodmansee Cemetery. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert Note: I'm not sure if there was an error or not--it says "eighteen children--eight boys and five girls".  I would think it should be thirteen.

    1. [INDIANA] CUPPY 1832 from Lafayette, to Illinois to Iowa Obituary
    2. Decatur County Journal IOWA May ll, l893 MARY CATHARINE LONG, daughter of ADAM and CHRISTINA CUPPY, died at her home in Leon, last Sunday morning at 4:40 o'clock, aged 60 years, 4 months and 2 days. She was born in Lafayette, Ind., December 25th, l832, and at an early age moved with her parents to Beardstown, Ill.  In l840 the family came to Iowa and located about one mile south of Ottumwa and three or four miles north of the old Indian agency on the Des Moines River.  Here the deceased attained womanhood and on the 2lst of March, l850, was united in marriage to A.B. LONG. MR. and MRS. LONG soon started a small store on the old Mormon Trail near Blakesburg, during the successful progress of which, they erected a store building.  The deceased assisted her husband in his business until the spring of l862 when the family came to this county and purchased and located on a farm near Leon.  In December l868, they moved to Leon and engaged in the mercantile business at their well known location on the corner until l875, when they again moved to the farm, returning again in the fall of l882, where they have ever since resided. Their union was one of marked congeniality and happiness, the deceased being possessed of a quiet, peaceful and amiable disposition.  She was universally beloved and respected by all who knew her.  To this couple eight sons were born.  The first and third died in infancy and the remaining six reached manhood and were all present at the funeral.   The funeral exercises were conducted at the residence last Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock by REV. G.D. GURLEY, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in this city, who delivered an appropriate and impressive sermon. The singing by an improvised choir was excellent.  A large number of our people were in attendance.  Among the immediate relatives of the deceased were JOHN and FRANK LONG, who are prosperous farmers of this county; HORRY L. and GRANVILLE, who are engaged in business in this city; and ORISON and ALBERT LONG, of Shenandoah, Ia. HIRAM LONG of Blakesburg, a brother of A.B. LONG, was also present, together with MRS. MARY PHIPPS, of Farragut, Ia., and MRS. EVALINE BARTLETT, of Audubon County, both sisters of the deceased. The remains were laid to rest in the Leon Cemetery at 4 o'clock in the presence of husband, sons, grandchildren and many kind and sympathizing friends. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert
