    2. Lora, I wonder if I could bother you with one more name? I'm also researching the name of LONG. I would need the marriages and deaths if possible. I know this is a big order, since Long is a common name, but it would help me tremendously. My family of Longs are very elusive. Many, many thanks for all the help you have given me! 1. [INDIANA] John Simon JACOBSON
    2. Frances A Babb
    3. Hi Listers, I am new to this list, and I am grasping at straws to find info on my family. I have a photo of my grgrandfather [listed in subject line], and it was made at Bennett Cabinet Portraits, 38 East Washington Street, Indianapolis. It is on cardboard and is very faded, but I have another picture of him, so I know it is the same person. My first questions are , does anyone know about this portrait studio? Is it still in business, or did it's name change and maybe they kept all negatives, or maybe they were sent to archives somewhere? Secondly, does anyone know anything about John Simon Jacobson, or any idea why he would be in Indianapolis in the 1800's. My understanding is, the family came to America before 1840. They are listed in the 1840 Mobile Co., Federal Census. John's father Frederick Jacobson came from a Nordic Country, possibly Denmark or Norway, went to Germany, Married a Johanna [no known maiden name] and they came to America. John Simon was born in Sumter Co., AL, 03/08/1839. He married Eliza J. Carson Rice [widow of John Rice] B; 08/20/1837 in Marengo Co., AL.or Dallas Co., AL. They married 10/11/1866 in Mobile, AL. and he died 12/27/1917 in Mobile. They had 2 children that I know of, George Frederick, and Emma Louise. The thing is, I never knew the family had any connections in Indiana, people just didn't travel somewhere just to have a portrait made. Does anyone there know anything about this man or his family? I think the picture was made possibly around mid 1800's. He is wearing a suit, not a uniform, and has a huge mustache. Please help me with this unusual link to my Jacobson's that I want. I am tickled to death to find a clue to the Jacobson ancestors. Thanks and God bless you. Fran fbabb@juno.com
