The Kansas state line bordered much of the land that was being opened, and they didn't have far to travel. Many times the men would come to the land opening area by horseback or buck-board in order to "make the run", but their families would follow by train. In addition, in case you hadn't noticed the U. S. migration patterns- people usually migrated into areas that had the same type of farmland and terrain as the place that they were migrating from. For the most part, central and western Oklahoma's land was almost identical to that of Kansas. jc
