Greetings. My family tradition has that Ellouise Debby Anne Bennett (1861 - 1888, Greenwood, AR) was of Cherokee descent. Her parents' were James A Bennett (1830 - 1891) and Deborah Ann Mullins (1832 - 1886) both born in SW MS. Further back, Willis Mullins and Lydia Bond were Deborah Ann Mullins parents and Richmond Bennett and Nancy Carlisle were James A Bennett's parents. The migratory pattern was NC/SC, GA, TN, MS, AR and eventually, Ellouise Debby Anne Bennett (the first name mentioned) married Basil Florence. Their children mostly moved to IT (Ada, Joseph, James, Thomas Lee, Mary, Albert and Luther Florence), mostly in Poteau County IT, then OK in the 1880's and 1890's where other relatives (from the Bennett/Mullins side) already lived. Does anyone know of this family? Of any NA connection? There are several family stories to this effect. And yes, as one person on this list said, there are several recipes, herbal concoctions and stories of healers handed down.
