    1. [IT ROOTS] FISHERTOWN, McINTOSH COUNTY, OK

    3. Dear Vickie, In the mid-1800's there was established a Fishertown, Oklahoma, located in today's McIntosh County. Fishertown was about five miles Northeast of Eufaula, I believe. The little community of Fishertown had disappeared before they put in Lake Eufaula, but the area where it was located is now under the Lake, as I understand it. The town or community of Fishertown was named for a family of Fishers, who were Creek Indians. My great aunt Mary W. "Polly" Glenn married Samuel Fisher, one of the members of this family, and her daughter from a previous marriage, Sarah P. Lampkin, married Samuel's son, William Fisher. The family was an enterprising bunch and for a time it sounds as if it was a thriving area. Its people and the town made interesting reading in Vol. 31, pp. 247-254 of the Chronicles of Oklahoma. If you or other list members would be interested in seeing the excerpts that I typed from this issue of the Chronicles, I'd be glad to post them. I haven't gotten far enough into my research of the area to know what happened to all of the cemeteries, so I can't answer about Post Oak Cemetery. It is possible that some information is available on the McIntosh County webpage. Good luck to you in searching this area. Hope you will share your findings?
