    3. Carol "Old family stories" are fine-- except when they are used as the total basis of genealogical research! Congratulations-- you are now a true genealogist! While your discovery may be a disappointment- I'm sure that you would rather know the truth. So many times this happens and then in each generation the myth escalates to the point that even the "author" would not recognize the story! My great-great grandfather did NOT own "1,700 acres of oil wells in downtown Ft Worth" as my mother went to her grave believing. But through research, I found what he did own, where it really was, and I'm just as proud of him as if he had owned the entire state!
