Although your idea is well intentioned and would provide a service on multiple levels. I would not be inclined to join the ranks. I tried this very thing with my own 87 year old grandmother. It was a disastrous under taking, although she was of sound mind. She couldn't remember things she felt she should have been able too. She became agitated over this.
