I plan on heading to the library on this one, but does anyone know whether or not Fort Smith, ARK was once a part of OK/IT? My grandfather, John Monroe PHILLIPS, stated all his life that he was born in Oklahoma/Indian Territory in January 1890. This is even on his death certificate. His mother, Mattie (TAYLOR) PHILLIPS KELLEY, in 1951, filed a birth certificate for him, giving his place of birth as Reform, Saline Co., AR. (Talk about scandal) I later found out from family that they were in Fort Smith, AR, as were the second branch of my family, CATES. Does anyone know about this history regarding OK/IT?
