filmo2@juno.com said- "Since you are so well versed in indian lore, maybe you can tell me what no one else could. Why is it that Chickasha ends in (A ) and doesn't follow the other endings like Konawa and Tonkawa and Tulsa" (AH) -------------------------------------------- I'm very surprised that you would ask me ANY question, considering that you voiced your opinion as to my "ignorance" in your last message to the mail list, but the answer to this question is so obvious that I couldn't resist! Could it "possibly" be because "Chickasha", being located in the CHICKASAW Nation (correctly spelled "CHICKASHA"), was spoken in a different LANGUAGE than the names of the other places that you mentioned? 'Konawa" was located in the Seminole Nation and was a Seminole/Muskogean word meaning "string of beads". "Tulsa" was located in the Creek Nation and was named for "Tulsey Town", an old Muskogean/Creek town back in their lands that became Alabama. "Konawa" was named for the Konawa Tribe- and you'll have to ask THEM the meaning because I do not speak their language! jc
