I also have the cable modem through the cable tv company. I am not sure of the speed off hand but it is very fast, and through the company that i am dealing with I did not have to purchase the modem, just rent it at $.500 a month, plus a 34.95 charge for the cable access. However purchasing the modem in the long run would probably be more economical. So you might check that out also.. I am saving $20.00 a month after I had the second phone line disconnected even though I am paying $20.00 more for the internet access, and you are on line constantly, you do not have to reconnect every time you turn on the computer, and I have never been knock off line since the installation.
